Default Buying STI with no logbook...

Hi all,

So after searching for a long time, i've found a car. Only issue is that apparently some time ago, the car was broken into and they stole everything in the glove box, including the logbooks....now why anyone would steal a log book is beyond me....

Question is, how simple is it to buy a new logbook from Subaru, and will dealerships "re- stamp" the book to confirm work that they have done?

It's a good car and if i decide to go ahead i will get ASG to check it, but this logbook thing just seems like it could annoy me down the track. i.e. when i go to sell and the next owner is like WTF stolen logbook?!

Any input in appreciated. Cheers guys.

Can the current owner tell you where he has had it serviced previously ?

Yea if you can find out where it has been serviced in the Past. You can get in contact with those workshops and get them to print out the works done on the car by them.

I took a closer look at the pictures and it was originally purchased from AHG...

I work for AHG so wasn't too hard to ask someone to check it out for me....

Owner should have all the service invoices somewhere unless the use their glove box as a filing cabinet.

Be aware that some damaged vehicles are repaired and have the clocks wound back allowing them to charge more when they sell it as an low kms straight and never damaged vehicle, so they ditch the logbook so there's no proof of real kms to get them in the shit!

Don't mean to alarm you but it does happen, be sure to get it thoroughly checked out but someone who knows what to look for!

Sometimes it's a rebirthed wrecked car and the previous owner took everthibg out. That's what I did when my car was written off

How old is the car and how much has it been modded?

If it is very old or highly modded, I'd be more interested to get a Subaru specialist to check it over first rather than have a log book saying it's had an oil change.

Yo,

06 and only performance mod is a catback... I plan on getting ASG to look at it if i decide to go ahead....Do they only look at it from an engine point of view, or do they check everything like RAC do?

JDM has me slightly worried as i've been saving for over a year for this and don't want a lemon!
