Or spend twice that for a conversion, it's happened many times before and there a fair few going around so a car is only worth what a person is prepared to pay.

I say if your prepared to pay what they're asking then go for it as it's your money and if that's the car you want.

It's worth nothing until it's landed and registered for road use in Australia. What's a S204 half cut worth now?

How much are they selling it for overseas? Is it the one on Xmas Island or one in Singas? (Sounds that way since you say registered in 2008 and thats how they class them in MY, SG and CI)

How much it's worth is how much you're prepared to pay for it.

As Stace said, just get an RA-R if you can find one, a member on here got one for mid $30k and imported it to NZ from Japan.
And the reality of the majority market for said vehicles would be to sell to a minority. Given, to my knowledge, I'm the only locally based s204 built to spec what precedence is there? I'm also of the assumption the original question by OP is to gauge real world value in buying and potentially selling in the Aussie market. A 204 is now reaching 5 years old. The heritage value doesn't exist so the uniqueness recognized by a knowledgeable minority.

Its not a sound investment if you want to cash in on a collectable. Return on investment is not justifiable. BUT if you want the ultimate oem package, then it's worthwhile for the driving nirvana when compared to the local offering.

My comment should have been more clear about what I meant.

I was just talking conversions in general as an example, also the comment of paying double is because some people have thought it would cost X amount then small problems etc blow that amount right out costing way more than originally budgeted for if they went the conversion route.

So a reasonable priced complete car might have slighlty more appeal if priced right and not exorbitantly, so you'd have to weigh up the price to the market your targeting.

Yes its better to Target the minority market as to most the 204 is just a badge and car with some extras, so the market value might not seem much over the local models.

When my car came in it was over $55k plus all the other costs and the first owner tried to sell it for $99k which is crack money, then $70k, $65k, $60k then $55k and I got him down quite a bit more because he was desperate.

He obviously thought it was similar to a 22B in rareness and value but its definitely not the case at all and thought he could turn a massive profit.

I'd say if you looked at that niche market you could get anywhere from $50-55k but it may take sometime to sell and if you wanted to sell quick then $45-50k would be a fair price.

Shannons valued mine and covered it for $60k but selling for that price is another story.

Most of the so called premium asking price over the std aus STi would be just the fact that the car was never sold here which may give it that extra appeal apart from the extra goodies it comes with as std.

I personally think that an RA-R or an R205 would command a higher price if you intend to buy a car for the purpose of making a little extra.

***Late night head cold post so to the OP if my post sounds jibberish I'll make it more clearly in the morn haha.

The pecking order of Subaru 'collectibles' imo:
22B
RA-R
R205
S203
S204

If you can get any of them registered in Australia, winning.

As for what they are worth... Only what someone is willing to pay.

"Subaru" and "Collectibles" shouldn't go in the same sentence.. maybe in 20 years time.

Rare mass produced Japanese shitbox with turbo and 4wd.

Even in 20 years time, only very very few will be collectable - the rest will be recycled.

Collectable/Trackable

Same Same?

Just get an S202 and thrash it

No fancy buttons just a steering wheel and a gear stick.
