5th gear rpm
Hi All,
I am interested to know what revs your cars sit on at 100kph in 5th (and 6th) gears. My forester sits at about 2.9k/2.8k and the wrx about 2.7. It just seems kind of high but maybe i'm wrong! Cheers :) Moose |
From memory, my 99 5 speed puts me at almost exactly 2.5k rpm at 100km/h.
|
3k in my 4.11 equipped RS.
|
Standard 5 speed in the foz was ~2600rpm for 100km/h with correct sized tyres.
04 6 speed is 2800rpm with the sti speed sensor and wrx sized tyres (when I have the foz tyres on it still says 100 at 2800 but I'm doing around 107-108km/h) EDIT: 5 speed is 4.44 and 6er is 3.9 |
Standard 5 speed in the foz was ~2600rpm for 100km/h with correct sized tyres.
i have the standard size tyres/rims on the foz, seems she's running quite high then if thats the standard. from memory that's how its always been though :icon_frow |
Thats strange, is it secondhand? Might have a different box in it
|
Long ratio 6 speed. approx 2500rpm @ 100kph in 6th gear.

original box been in family since new i dont think its doing any harm since we've never had an issue with it but i'll pose the question when she goes in for service next! |
what are people who have my06 wrx sitting on at 100, just after some comparisons. running slightly wider tyres but only changes speedo by -3%
|
MY99 Original 5 Speed ~ 3000rpm in 5th @ 100
|
MY01 WRX approx 2.8K @ 100km/h
|
my02 sti
6 speed - about 3000rpm at 100km/h |
MY99 Original 5 Speed ~ 3000rpm in 5th @ 100
Really? That's epically high. |
my MY07 wrx does 3000k 100km/h
Completely stock |
Mine's 2900 in 5th... MY99 Impreza 5 speed.
|
Mine is around 2800-2900 - MY99 5 Speed

hmmm ok, so it seems that the 5 (and 6) speed are all about the same as mine. except mister two's RS - but seriously who can argue with the awesomeness of an RS!
i was under the impression (perhaps naively) that the 6th gear would take the revs down or is that more an altered diff ratio result? |
I havent gone over 75km in past 1 month so I cant remember.
05 STi 6 speed short ratio - in 6th Gear 100k/hr>>>2,800rpm 110k/hr>>>3,050rpm 120k/hr>>>3,300rpm with 225/45/17" |
MY99 Original 5 Speed ~ 3000rpm in 5th @ 100

my MY07 wrx does 3000k 100km/h

Mine's 2900 in 5th... MY99 Impreza 5 speed.

Mine is around 2800-2900 - MY99 5 Speed
Anyone able to shed some light on why there might be differences. Mine's definitely 2500-2600 at 100km/h (On PFC handcontroller when i had it, and on dash) Rolling diameters on rims/tyres is standard. |
Ill get a more accurate reading on the way home from work today.
Im running Standard Version6 STi 6 Spoke Rims with Standard Profile Dunlop Sport tyres. |
Evo X MR.
Unknown RPM @ 100kph as I'm normally having a snooze while it drives itself. |
I think the differences are because people approximate what the RPM are. Will check nxt time I'm on the freeway

Somewhere in 2007 the ADR's forced car manufacturers to build in an error to the speedo to comply with a formula. Works out to be about 106 on most cars speedos after the change will give you a true 100.
Before they would have had to comply with this Subi speedos were pretty well spot on. If you want to check RPM then check it against a GPS with both cars. If you have one of the newer inaccurate ones it will read differently to an earlier one. Also box and diff ratios did change through the years. The 06 WRX also revved higher than the 06 STi with both in top gear. The STi was around 2500-2600 from memory. When I test drove the WRX before getting the STi I'm pretty sure it was 3K+ |
Excellent thanks everyone - I can sleep well knowing Im not revving high :-)
|
All depends on which box you have & which ratio's, also tyres, a 97/8 4.44 STI is about 2,900 @ 100 whereas a 4.1 will be around 2,800, a 3.9 about 2,700 & an Aus 3,9 with 3.4 rear I think is around 2,650, then there is the high and low ratio 6 speeds & RA boxes which pull around 3,400 @ 100
|
~3200rpm in 5th @ 100kph (GPS accurate) on a 4.44 STI box here.
|
2500 on the dot, my01.
|
Sorry - my figure from my head was wrong - My car is about 2500RPM @ 100 in 5th.
|
2400 rpm in a 06 STi 6 speed.

Same here |
2500 RPM @ 100 in 5th here also
|
Close to 3k at 100kp/h, but ive never thought to look at what it exactly its!

MY00 WRX 2500rpm at 100km/h in 5th gear
|
Digging up and old thread.
My 06 STi in 6th gear does the same RPM at 100km/h. What I'd like to know is what the newer GR and GV STi's RPMS' sit at doing 100km/h while in 6th gear ?
2400 rpm in a 06 STi 6 speed.
|
That must be the long ratio box.
I'm at about 2900 or so in my 6 speed, which is a JDM spec c box. 0.842 6th with the 3.9 final drive. |

4cyl cars are always going to rev more at cruising gears. Its just the way it is.
The other thing specific to subarus (6spds) is if the engine is a 2L or a 2.5L. The gearboxs are matched to engine size. This is why the JDM ones (2.0L) are more revvy than the AUDM (2.5L) boxs. |
