Register a new engine

Hi all,

Anyone here register a new engine with WA licensing after an engine swap. I understand it is just some paperwork that needs to be done as long as capacity has not change as the form use RAC HP which is calculated on bore size & cylinders. Anyone gone thru this paperwork process & can advise me how long they will take before everything is good & registered?

Cheers,

KJ

Been through an engine conversion in a nissan patrol and that needed to be engineered. Got the engineers certificate, filled out the paperwork and then to the pits. Only took a couple of days for that and then 2 weeks for the paperwork to be finalised. When you go in they will let you know if they can get it through sooner.

as longs as its a direct replacement engine, ie 2 litre turbo replacing a 2 litre turbo, its just a form to fill out

going from 2 litre n/a to 2 litre turbo will require engineering

What about going from a 2.5 turbo ->2.0 turbo?

not sure, DoT would see this as a downgrade though so you may get away with no engineering  best to give them a call

Was just food for though, but appreciate the help :D

Upgrade or downgrade requires engineering. Only a direct replacement of the same spec engine is a paperwork affair.

For everyone info, technically according to the paperwork, you can go from a NA 2L to a Turbo 2L & still have the same RAC horsepower as it calculated

RAC HP = (bore size inches) x (bore size inches)x cylinders/2.5

Bore size is same for 2L NA & Turbo. 2L EJ20 & EJ20T with bore size of 92mm gives a RAC HP of 21. Not much is it!

Strubaru & dtrally, have you guys done a direct engine replacement before?

hi kev
dtrally is doug from stechnic
we won't talk about strubaru's (chris) epic engine transplant...

Strubaru 05-08-2011 07:40 AM

lwhatever doug says on this matter you can take as gospel, he's the professional here :D I've only done same spec engine swap (well same capacity and aspiration) i never got around to doing the paperwork & now the stock engine is back in there

DOT will definitely be asking the question if its an n/a to turbo conversion ;) they're not clueless :D
