Maybe not, but a set are only a few hundred bucks, that wont swing the idea one way or another.

No need for a 6 speed upgrade unless you:

a) can't drive
b) flog the shit out of it
c) use it for a particular thing where you need reliability (i.e. racing)

I tried my hardest to destroy a MY05 4.44 box and couldn't do it. Stick with an organic clutch and you will not have too many worries.

If you are wanting to go hardcore, I'd start with a STi base as you get EJ207 semi closed deck block, bigger tmic, brembos, R180 shafts etc.

If you are going mild (and when I say mild it's still farking quick) you can use your existing setup, VF34, STi TMIC, fuel pump, tune, some sway bars and coilovers. BAM winning. This combination on my old MY05 yielded mid 12 second quarter mile times.

Alright yeah i understand the whole wrx spending money no resale value.. i could go the sti also there are definetely a few nice ones on the forums but then spending money on them.? sti is definetely a more rounded car.

feel free for anyone to correct my understanding/figures
my02wrx 230xxx eng runs well.
vf34 1500
injector 400
tmic 400-700
fuel pump 150
tune 1000
brakes - 2000
organic clutch - 500
anything else i should consider?
lets say 7k for parts? now a curve ball

car has damage to the back, got replacement parts gonna get fixed
anyone got any estimate how much car is worth as it is?
i think the resale on these is quite low 11-12k if the body was good/

Damaged bug eye with 230k km on the clock... $7k if you're lucky.

I know of a hail damaged bug eye repairable write-off that went for $10k, clear coat peeling and all, and it popped a motor a few days after it was purchased. FAIL.

Is the frame beneath the bumper damaged? It won't be cheap to get it fixed..

don't sell your car it's not worth it, as joe said you'll probably get around 6-7 grand if you're lucky, a decent 02 sti is around the 19k mark

you've still got around 12k to dump into your car until you reach the point where you should've bought an sti

plus mild mods & tune for the sti (assuming it just has an exhaust), probably 15k difference between your car atm and an 02 sti

keep your car, do as many others have said and get a fuel pump, sti TMIC and if you're worried about your engine run a vf35 tuned to 1.1 bar for a responsive, reasonably quick daily
coilies and swaybar are all you need also as kato said, all up around 4k

if you want to go even faster start ripping shit out of your car

I looked at it.

You can buy bugeye sti for ~$17000, sell the wrx for ~$9000 and its only cost you about $10000 after costs more for sti with all the work done.

Not worth it

I bought a 2001 WRX 5 years ago with 86Km on the clock - At the time, I couldn't afford doing another ~7 or 8 grand to get the 2002 STI.

Looking back, should have saved more and done it - But i got a good deal on the WRX and didn't want to loan more cash or i'd still be paying it off now, so no regrets.

Probably put anothher $10-12k into the car on various upgrades, and keeping it running really nice, but as mentioned the car is still a WRX, albeit a quick street car.

If i was to sell it and buy a bugeye STI, i would definitely buy a modified one as mine is more modified than a stock STI and not worth selling mine to buy a stock STI and going through the whole modify thing again as it's taken 5 years worth of time and money to get it where it is now.

I just call all my upgrades to better parts routine maintenance - and hey if that means putting a 6 speed in and a ej207 .. all good i say.
