Oil Catch Can Recommendations
Heya,
So i've only ever done events at AHG/ RAC but need to get my car prepped for no limits events now.... I have been told by a few people that either catch cans or AOS's are essential, so have been doing my research.... A lot of people like the hyperflow but at nearly 300 dollars im looking at other options.... Question is: what do you guys recommend for an 06 sti? Want it as legal as possible for obvious reasons... And are there any other "essentials" before i take it to barbs? (extinguisher has already been sorted) |

Ive gone through a few different cans. China spec with no baffling. "Drift" brand with my own baffling added. And finally a hyperflow 4 port.
The hyperflow is definitely the best one. The baffling and foam filter inside is huge. It cleaned up the oil vapour passing through it the best of all.

Adequate spec brakes.(STI Brembos are fine, just make sure you got plenty of pads)
Decent tyres. Doesn't hurt to do a basic service beforehand ie brake fluid, oil, clean your windows etc Blue battery triangle.

I'd definitely want to be running new brake fluid and some decent pads.
Catch can in my opinion isn't needed. It may be good, but if you needed one it would come factory on the car. I'd also be checking your oil levels regularly. 06 STi's have a habit of dok dok'ing at barbs.... Ask Jaron

Having used an '06 STI on the track for a few years now, I can tell you that a catch can is a worthwhile addition....and the one to get is the Hyperflow...300 bucks is pretty good value for what you get.
2.5's chuck oil around a fair bit when on the track. New Brembo competition fluid and good brake pads (Ferodo DS2500 or if you have $, Pagid RS29) are a very good idea. Check the oil but be careful not to overfill it.

Thanks for the responses guys.....looks like Hyperflow is the way to go....
Few more questions: - Does Hyperflow do group buys? Would it be worth trying to organize? - Is there any maintenance required on the catch can? Does it route oil back to the sump or do you have to empty the can once in a while? |

You can give my 3 port S2 Industries AOS a go if you want. $100.
