another stupid newb question .. "approximate power"

ive decided to race the new pig on saturday

its going to cop a quick tune tomorrow night

car has following mods

my98 motor
3 inch exhaust
fmic
vf30 turbo
motec v4 clubman ecu
sti 4.4 box
upgraded fuel pump, i believe it has stock injectors.

quick question - what sort of boost should i be limiting the car to ? ive heard from 14 - 21psi.. quite a gap so ill ask for some more learned advice.

what sort of power at the wheels would a combo like that be good for? i know end of the day power means nothing, a time slip is true indicator of performance, but id like a benchmark. its going to get a new cooler , new exhaust system, and a vf34 in the future.. but baby steps atm.

thanking you in advance

tj

prob be around the 180kw mark. run 18 pound on a stock 98 motor (can run more)

whats the limiting factor?

injectors out of flow?
turbo out of flow?
internals too weak?

JMAX 28-04-2006 12:09 AM

Should get 165-180kw atw on a DD Dyno running 18-19psi.

joey89 28-04-2006 12:24 AM

Im pretty sure your injectors will get maxed out that would be the limitation
Nar stock internals should be fine for those sort of mods

P.S dont be shy to tell us what it pulls tomorrow night :p

I wouldn't go higher than 16-17 psi.
You should get 160-170 atw on a DD.

Injectors are your limit TJ - 20psi is doeable but you need decent fueling and a rock solid tune. If your racing tomorrow set boost at 17-18psi. AFR's around flat 12's and it'll go very nicely thankyou.

i was going to aim for mid/high 11's and see if we can get some timing into the thing so it comes on a little earlier...

Bakks 28-04-2006 10:47 AM

Why do you need a new FMIC? Exhaust? Turbo?

teejay 28-04-2006 11:15 AM

id say be the looks of things, the cooler is quite likely to be a cut down truck core, so its ability to cool air may well be dimished compared to even a 200 dollar china cooler.

exahust ... might be ok

vf34 is more responsive then a 30 from all accounts, and i want to get more into motorkhanas and legal motorsport.
