Yokohama A050 Tyre Problem
Just wondering if any of you that have used the 050 on their cars have ever experienced "scalloping" or "cupping" ??
It is when the outer edge of the tyre appears to have little scoops taken out of them at regular intervals. If you drew a wavey line it sort of looks like that. Its the first time I have run the 050 and not had this before on other tyres. I have only done about 250ks on the tyres, 4 sprint days at RAC, running them at 30 -31psi hot, 3 degrees neg camber on the front and neg 2 on the rear, I have KW v3 coilovers which have only done 6,500ks. Just looking for feed back if anyone has had this before mainly on the 050 or I suppose any R spec tyre???? Last edited by phoenix; 10-06-2012 at 07:38 PM. |

Taken them to wheels world and John will tell you what the go is.
I think it's from understeering. I think he would tell you to run them a bit harder also.

Took them to John today and he said he has not seen the 050 do that before. I am reserving further comment on my visit as he is still looking into things.
I am running them at the pressures that he and the Yokohama web site recommends as hot pressures. He was ok about the pressures when I spoke to him today. |

Ah well, there goes that idea!
I've had them scollop out before but on A048s or 888s ( can't remember ) and I'm sure I was told by him it was either understeer or not ideal psi, but it was a while ago so I may have my wires crossed. I've been running mine around 34 hot, and have been getting pretty even wear.

Can you take pics? Keen to see how they look.
Also is 30-31 hot as in just came off a run and measure or cruising down the street hot?

I've not had this problem with that tyre and coilover combo.

It's exactly what I'm running, set up at WW and like I said no dramas yet ( I think Phoenix is Carl?) so we've done the same amount of events.
Only thing we may be doing different is that my 'hot' is straight off a run at 34psi, so it would be good to hear when he measures.

I have been through quite a few 050's and never had this problem.
Pressures seem about right. We ran them a bit less in the wet but we were aiming for 30 hot. Brendon
