what's the km limit on gc8 + bug engines

so i'm looking at getting myself either a nice GC8 or bug, I like both shapes so i'm still a bit undecided.

Problem is pretty much all of them are 150k +

What's the rough limit on these before they need a rebuild and how much does that roughly cost?

Obviously it will depend on how it's maintained and what-not.

I am also aware that anything with ultra low km is 99% a track day car and I'm looking for more of a reliable daily.

Cheers

Don't worry about the engine, they don't wear out. They blow up frequently but that's not km related. If they are maintained, not abused it's not uncommon for Suabru engines to still be strong after 400,000km.

A well looked after WRX will still be free of squeaks, rattles and visible wear after 200,000km, if you don't believe me I'll show you mine. On the other hand there are cars around that have 50,000km on the odo and the seats, carpet, door trims, steering wheel are worn through. Don't judge a cars condition by odometer alone, plenty have been tampered with.

Go get the car checked out by someone like STechnic.

As Doug said above, kilometers don't tell the story. 150,000kms of a stock well maintained car vs 150,000kms of a stock non maintained car vs 150,000kms of a car tuned withing 1% of its life but well maintained vs 150,000kms of a car tuned within 1% of its life but not maintained are all a different kettle of fish.

I'm happy to belt shit out of a 200,000km+ car or I can swap another dash in and have it say 75,000km thus making it super reliable. :D

My gc8 has 297xxx on the clock and I've taken it on a track day or two (and another this Sunday). I change the oil every 5000/10,000km or generally after a track day. She is still going strong :D In saying the the steering wheel and gearknob is to shit the drivers car has a rip in an there are rattles :/ but in terms of reliability I could t ask for more (touch wood) :D

Pretty much what they have all said.
My STi has 165xxxkms on it and sees track days & cops a hiding regularly.

Saying that it also sees oil changes less than 5000kms and i keep an eye out for anything that might/could be a problem.

My GC8's sitting on 228000 atm, apart from new radiator, and in the next few weeks putting new clutch and brakes in it. Had no drama's with it at all and has been as reliable as any car I've ever had. Get about 450 + per tank depending on how heavy my right foot is, and it's a daily driver.

My Liberty NA is still going strong at well over 300,000. Regular oil changes it's whole life. Starts 1st time and doesn't smoke.

Can't give an exact figure as I sold it to my, now separated from my sister, brother in law.

my bugs coming up to 280,000km's now, i got it tuned 15,000km's ago and it made decent power all things considered

still going hard, yes there are random noises sometimes, but the engines strong as ever

oneeeeee milllllllllion kms

munya 24-07-2012 02:13 PM

As everyone has said depends on maintenance, my bug has just ticked over 170 000km and is punished a lot and is also running not so stock boost levels but has been tuned for this and going strong for now
