New here, need help with bugeye sti please!

Hey everybody,

I just bought an 02 sti from a holden dealership. I've been looking for one for a while and this one came up that ticked all the boxes, pretty standard with some subtle mods. I had some problems taking delivery of the car as it threw up an engine light. Holden did the right thing and sent it to Subaru; who cleared the code, apparently an 02 sensor (according to the salesman) they put it down o a dirty throttle body (I was sceptical). When I received the car on Tuesday it threw the light up again, after I spoke the Holden they told me to take it to subaru and they would resolve the bill. I can't do this unroll next week as I fifo and I'm away ATM. The car drives fine, has done 147,000k with a subaru service history and is in very good condition ( I'm assuming it's been well looked after. It has an x-force turbo back exhaust, dump valve and an after market pod filter. On the way to the airport this morning I filled her with 98 as it says on the filler cap, and I thought I wonder if holden filled it with 91 thus causing this problem. What is your opinion on this? Thanks, Mark.

If the code said it was an O2 sensor then that's probably the cause. If Holden have agreed to foot the bill, just take it back to Subaru and make them replace the sensor rather than just clear the code.

If they are pricks about it, talk to Mao at Evolution R, he checked my code for free (what a nice guy eh?) then replaced it at about 30% less than Subaru wanted. You may have to google the code to see which sensor the code refers to but that shouldn't take long.

Oh, and congratulations on the purchase!

It's not uncommon for subarus to shit o2 sensors, if it's thrown the code then the o2 sensor proberbly needs to be changed. If Holden are paying then have have subaru replace it

It's probably the aftermarket exhaust causing it to throw a CEL. As said, go to a Subaru dealer / workshop, get a replacement sensor, and make Holden foot the bill. Easy fix, hopefully

with the exhaust and pod filter you'd want to get it on a dyno before giving it too much of a hard time as they can cause problems if your car isnt tuned correctly for them... +1 for seeing mao and warrick at evo R.. my car had a similar problem when i got it, every now and then under full load i'd get a jolt and engine light... i thaught it was detonation but turns out it was due to the wastegate activating too early caused by a lazy tune.. ( good ol oz park race tune!) hahah now it never misses a beat, sounds awesome and goes like stink!

well done on getting an sti n not a wrx! you will not regret it if the plan is to go fast.
AAAAAND WELCOOME! :)

The best kinda fix is when someone else pays for it!

Sensor could be full of shit from the pod filter, try cleaning it maybe

Correct me if I am wrong but I think o2 sensor is in the exhaust and not the AFM located along the intake after pod filter.
P.S welcome as everyone has said if the are willing to pay for it take it to Subaru and get them to fix it

Thanks for the warm welcome and responses all. I think I'll take your advice and get a new 02 sensor fitted. What sort of money would I be looking at for a dyne tune? Also I've been looking at the higher spoilers, are the ultrex ones okay? Who are you guys using for paint?

Thanks again! Mark.

It is unlikely that a CEL code would appear due just to an aftermarket exhaust. Before you get thigs replaced check if the car has had a re-flash tune? ...ie either ECUTek or Verso?
If so, you would need to take it back to the re-flash workshop who will modify the parameters so it doesn't re-appear...this problem is not uncommon
after re-flash tunes...
