immobiliser issues

has anyone had any issues with the stock immobilisers on wrx's that when you unlock the door and put the key in the fob, the car doesn't start. The engine light doesn't come on either, i have to wiggle the key, remove it a couple times, unlock the doors, and pray that it eventually starts :p

The car is a 2002 bugeye wrx and it has only just started recently and does it every now and then. ive replaced the battery in the remote already incase it was that!

Any suggestions? Im going to try and retune the fob to see if its the key not working 100% with the car.

Cheers fellow wrx'ers!

Good question my car does this at least once a week I thought at first my key was faulty but Subaru eliminated that, my car has never been tuned stock ecu. I'm interested for an answer too

Worn key?

Curious on your procedure... Why are you putting a key in the fob? It should be:

1. Press unlock door button
2. Enter car
3. Put key in ignition barrel
4. Turn key
5. Maybe some knight rider/brant stuff
6. Turn car on
7. Dial up 7,000rpm
8. Side step clutch
9. Profit

well im going to act total newb here, but i have the brant system i believe but no keypad, the guy before me that owned it had disabled it :)

My procedure
1. Press unlock door button
2. Enter car
3. Put key in ignition barrel
4. Turn key
5. wait a second to see if CEL comes on, saying key is registered
6. no CEL, keep putting key in and out constantly
7. Bam, randomly key is registered and car starts!

I literally have to put the key in the barrel, before i turn it and wait atleast 15 seconds to here a click then the car can start

Maybe brant is faulty?

Err... Whatever car alarm you have is teh gayz.

If there is no keypad in the car I'd guess it has been replaced with something else.

Take it to an alarm shop to identify what system is in the car and how best to fix it.

Also since the factory alarm system is missing/replaced you will need to let your insurer know this.

You can't really disable the Brant.... You can switch off certain features and remove parts of the system.
Even if the keypad part of the system has been removed the rest of the system could:
A: still be fitted
B: still be causing your problem.

My guess is a worn key sensor if you need to put the key in so many times for it to read the key. As much as I dislike the Brant alarms...this sounds like something else.

Have you tried your spare key?
