Rim Repairs

Hello,

Got a slight graze on one of my Work Emo's - Just been told by Alliance Rim Repair's (Mark), they can't match the paint and have to re-do the whole rim. This would mean I would have to do them all and am obviously not keen.

Anyone know of any other Perth rim repairers who can do this?

Cheers

ImPreSiV 18-10-2012 04:14 PM

Surely a proper paint shop will be able to fix it / match the colour. Try Owen and Melthams Rich

Kato 18-10-2012 05:10 PM

Leave it and test a new theory for me.

Does rash get the gash??

:D

RichX 18-10-2012 05:46 PM

I suspect not Kato.

... Kym .. So you're saying find out that someone can match it, then go back to Alliance and tell them it can be done?

I thought Alliance would be more professional and actually seek out the paint colour. I would rather not have to do the hard yards for them. That is their job.

This is reminding me of the trying to find the place in Perth that can match the Brembo colour.

Or will Melthams actually repair the rim?

shinigami 18-10-2012 06:10 PM

I had some work done by Owen from Meltham Motors before.

Graze was fixed up and was perfect. Very happy with his work and a top bloke to deal with :D

hope that helps.

RichX 18-10-2012 06:20 PM

Cheers mate. It's on the way to work so might drop by and try my luck :)

Mysterious work emotion colour shrouded in japanese paint secrets it seems, hrrm.

ImPreSiV 18-10-2012 07:39 PM

yeah I am suggesting Owen at Melthams to fix the rim. It's just a sanding and repainting, and I'd bet they can match the colour close enough you'd never know it was sprayed.

RichX 20-10-2012 08:45 AM

Thanks Kym. Went and saw Owen, they are going to give it a crack.

Saw your rims and front bumper in there. :)

ratpack 20-10-2012 09:36 AM

Possibly the slightly frosted finish on those style wheels is the issue rather than the colour??

RichX 20-10-2012 09:52 AM

Yeah dunno mate. Maybe, they are more of a matte finish than gloss for sure.

Worst case, if they don't match it correctly or not happy wit hit, I do all 4 to get them the same again.

Captain Awesome 20-10-2012 10:55 AM

I'll be taking mine to melthams, heard good things all around.

RichX 20-10-2012 11:34 AM

I will update this thread on the outcome. Apparently they take them over to Wilko's round the corner for some of the work too.

ImPreSiV 20-10-2012 02:08 PM

look forward to the reports Rich. Guessing you told Owen I sent you?

RichX 20-10-2012 04:16 PM

Nah i didn't actually, he was like oh this is Kym's stuff. do you know Kym, yes i know Kym he sent me.

some dude was working on cleaning up your rims when i rocked up.

RichX 24-10-2012 07:20 PM

Ok, so rim return.

Credit where credit is due, Owen & the guys did a great job, so props in this respect, great work, see pic:

Colour is called Sepang Bronze. Spot on with the colour and repairs!

The interesting:

The unmistakeable smell of burned clutch on the drive home. Hrmm. I recorded the K's on the car and it had travelled about 5 k's.

To all the garages out there, something to remember, burned clutch hangs around like cigarette smoke.

GTB Liberty 24-10-2012 08:02 PM

Great effort on the rim.

Driving your car without permission is essentially theft.

I take a photo of odometer and email to manager on the day I hand over car.

Edited

ImPreSiV 24-10-2012 09:35 PM

Rich there was a problem with your space saver. Call me and I'll explain

American Dave 24-10-2012 09:42 PM

you need to drive the customers car 5 km to fix an issue with a space saver spare but dont bother telling the customer about it = suspect behaviour

RichX 24-10-2012 09:49 PM

Burnt clutch caused by Brembo conversion on my car and non-fitting space saver being dragged on the rear when trying to move the car.

Honest mistake - By all involved.

As I just said to Kym, Melthams are tops at matching paint, so don't take my unfortunate event to put you off from speaking to Owen, he is a top bloke and out to help the Perth guys with their cars.

American Dave 24-10-2012 09:55 PM

but how do you explain 5km of driving ?

ImPreSiV 24-10-2012 09:56 PM

Wheel was balanced by Wilkinsons Suspension. They probably drove the car.

American Dave 24-10-2012 10:03 PM

yeah I guess they probably did drive it...so is this just an honest non disclosure to the customer ? smells like fish, tastes like fish, its probably not bacon...just sayin

ImPreSiV 24-10-2012 10:08 PM

Rich told me he was told about the space saver, was probably not explained properly... Just a misunderstanding.

Ease up on the conspiracy theories Dave, we aren't in the USA you know :D

Kym, I'm sure this was a miscommunication
And everyone involve seems happy

But I have to comment that, You have been quick to jump on other workshops in the past though

RichX 24-10-2012 10:32 PM

Just said it had Brembo conversion, probably would not fit - Obviously big brakes on front, so tried rear thinking it might work. Space saver went on, but didn't turn.

Brembo's say no, clutch says maybe. :)

Got some scratch marks on the top face of the rear brembo, not visible thankfully, so this backs up what happened.

Still impressed with how well the the paint was matched and repaired the graze.

Might as well pull the space saver out and save the weight! :)

Would have been nice for them to tell me what actually happened when i grabbed the car, that is all. Us Subaru PWRX owners are pretty onto our cars when they aren't right as per another thread going at the moment.

STI325V6 24-10-2012 10:42 PM

^^I've got one that springs to mind :)

ImPreSiV 24-10-2012 10:44 PM

pfft

phizzle 24-10-2012 10:49 PM

Are you quite sure they didn't swap a woobly flywheel into your car and it is now causing your clutch to burn? It has been known to happen :p

pmh 24-10-2012 10:58 PM
 such as?
I shall leave it alone

Kato 25-10-2012 09:18 AM

Why is Kym the spokesman for this company? Can't Owen talk directly? I'm confused.

However, top job on the repairs!

RichX 25-10-2012 09:28 AM

Kym just by random chance and good timing happened to be there picking up his stuff when he saw what was going on with mine.

Kato 25-10-2012 09:30 AM

Roger!

I'm more curious than a Mars rover :p

LOL, bi-curious? As in bi-winning?? haha

big o 25-10-2012 05:14 PM

The rim sure did come up nice

The colour is not Sepang Gold like I explained to Richard we had to custom mix the colour as sepang gold was to red, so not matching at all.

As for the saying I drove the car, I just did a mesurement on how far I drove the car, came in at about 60m, I took the wheel of the rh front ( tried space saver did not fit )
removed rh rear ( tried space saver, did not fit ) space saver bolted up on rear but would not spin. Thinking I would of had the chance to come in early yesterday moning 630am and re fit the tyre before the staff got here and not having someone move the car on the space saver. When I had got to work at 630am my brother Adam ( 18 years as panel beater ) had moved the car. The car slide on the space saver for about 4-5m before adam realised what had happend. Then he went a used a wheel dolly.

I didn't even remove the tyre off the wheel so there was no need for me to drive the car to Wilko's

I charged Richard $150 to repair and custom blend and match also to matt clear the wheel which I thought was a really good deal and to help him out as the quotes he received from other shops were outrageous.

I hope this clears up a few things.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Owen.

STI325V6 26-10-2012 10:11 PM

Rich, maybe time to get the correct spare mate, I got one off eBay for about $80.00 delivered :)
