Help with buying first STI

Hey all! Looking at buying a really nice 2002 Wrx Sti with super low kms at a good price

Just have a few questions,
I've compared a few, and some rev to 8000rpm and go to 180kph
and some rev only just beyond 7000rmp and go to 260kph
Whats the deal here? is one JDM and another ADM?

Also, is 1.6 Bar safe on this motor? It's been tuned with a bigger fuel pump etc.

Does the intercooler water spray really work? Gets me kind of excited thinking about it!

Any other things to check for or any other information that may pursuade me to go for it would be lovely :P

You can't buy a JDM one unless it is a personal import. There would probably be zero 02 STi's brought in as a personal import.

180kmh speedo means someone has done a JDM cluster swap. This usually means the kms on the display are wrong. A very easy way to lie and suddenly turn a high km car into a low km car. Also highly illegal. I'd also be looking if you are buying a real STi or just a reshelled GX. Nothing wrong with a re-shell so long as the price is right and it has been done correctly.

I'd advise getting any car you wish to buy checked out by a Subaru workshop like STechnic.

Post a link to the car in question.

The detectives here will be able to figure it out pretty quick.

The question I would be asking is why has a well looked after 80,000km 10 year old car had a full respray? Perhaps hail or accident damage?

One of the guys on the forum MasterD had 2 dud 02 STi's inspected before he bought the silver one he has now. One was a repaired write off that had been welded together through the middle of the car, the other was a converted GX that had a burnt piston. Both cars ended up being sold to unsuspecting owners that did not get a pre-urchase inspection done.

Moral of the story is get it inspected by someone who knows Subaru. 02 STi are great value performance cars but be wary of cars that don't have the 260 KP/H cluster or have evidence of paint or panel repairs.

Isn't that just a standard wrx boot spoiler, does it seem odd to replace the STI one? Correct me if im wrong
