Default Buying a WRX soon!

Gday guys, been doing LOTS of reasearch and ive decided to buy a WRX, will be a 2000 model I suspect as I have a Budget of only $10,000 so cant afford a nice STI or later type model.

I currently have a Nissan 180SX thats been nothing but problems ( daily driver of the last 4 years) it HAS to go!. I must avoid buying another problem ridden, missfiring engine so have been looking at various cars for some time now. Does anyone here know these cars in the links below, before I buy a dodgey car, you can PM me the info if you want. I apologise if these belong to members on here and Im not bagging your cars at all but I really must make sureI get a decent car this time around( for once!)....

1999 Subaru WRX Sedan MY00 | Cars, Vans & Utes | Gumtree Australia Stirling Area - Nollamara

Like this one and not too far from me, looks like a dent on the left fender, but as long as its mechanically OK??

Quick clean and mean... WRX | Cars, Vans & Utes | Gumtree Australia Cockburn Area - Beeliar

This one is lovely but if I get one for $8000 I still have money left for wheels etc

The last one belongs to a member on here - FOR SALE THREAD

Personally I wouldn't look at anything with BOV's, turbo timers, boost controllers, etc. Buy something unraped or sensibly modified.

Welcome!

Good luck with the search, general consensus here seems to be that any car you're considering should checked by a reputable Subaru specialist (http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/mechanic...workshops.html) to pick up on any nasties. There are the obvious signs you need to look out for (loose gearboxes, engine knock on idle, suspension clunks, etc.) but this may just save you another daily driver nightmare.

Of the ones you posted, last two look okay (pending inspection!). First seems to have front panel fitment issues (bent guard, aftermarket bumper doesn't quite fit).

Thanks very much for the Welcome chaps!, I think maybe the last one is the way to go, nice ,clean ,not heavily modded. I wasnt going to buy one due to the problems I keep hearing about regarding the dreaded "Clutch Shudder" and the unkown factor of cost of repairs/ parts though Ive since been told its not as bad as I first thought.

The other thing was that, when you have to replace Tyres your having to buy 4 not 2 ,like every other car ive owned. Ive looked at 90's rodeo's, Hilux, MR2's, Toyota CALDINA,MX5 etc but I keep coming back to wanting a WRX!?. Ive wanted one since the mid 90's but never did buy one

I guess the smart way is to have a WRX inspected before Purchase (via a mobile car inspector),anyone know what they charge for that sort of thing these days??....

Guys, can someone tell me how often you lot change your Engine Oil, in my 180SX I changed it every 5000km is it necessary to change oil so often or this overkill??.

Plus I know its relivant to the way any car is driven but how Thirsty on Fuel are the 2000 model WRX's if driven sensibly? I ask cause it will be my daily driver.

in about 30 mins Im off to look at that Red one I posted a link of....

I get on average 400km out of a 50L tank, but I do like the spirited drive from time to time. I'd assume a stock Wrx could get close to 500 off a 50L take if driven sensibly.

5000 km per oil change sounds about right.

Just got back from driving the Red 2000 model WRX= well, no unfortunately sale cause it struggled a little to start the owner says the battery's a bit dodgey. Theres a reasonable dent on left and right sides, it makes an odd noise if you coast along, paint on the roof is going, the carbon fibre wrap shit starting to come off on one corner.

But its the first time ive driven a WRX and loved it! gearbox changes are very close and precise, good handling and acceleration= I'm sold and want one.
