Mtb & wrx
Hi Guys,
Looking at getting back into a WRX (hopefully a MY05 STI), my only dilemma is that I am now fairly into my Mountain Biking and carting around a MTB in a WRX could be a challenge. Does anyone on the forum own a WRX sedan and carry their MTB around? on the roof, in the boot? I would like to avoid getting a tow bar. If it just can't be done without too much risk of damage to the car then I may have to consider a forester XT. Any suggestions would be great, thanks in Advance. Dave |
There are a couple of forester sti for sale at the moment

Check out the Rinho rack website mate, they make roof bars with mountain bike holders for 05 WRX/STi's :)

I carry my DH and xc bike around on the roof of my wrx. I made a special rack to bolt onto my roof racks at work. Im selling it too get a tow bar and grip sport rack though. If you want to buy the roof racks i will sell them for 150buks. They are genuine subi ones, pretty sure they are made by thule. What sort of mountain bike are you looking at carring, does it have 15mm front axel?

Trance X 29er 0, it has 15mm front axel.

I hope the lord takes pity on you for buying a 29'er. But on a lighter note, let me know if you want the roof racks, they will fit any GD sedan wrx, sti or impreza.

^^ whats bad about 29ers?
I've just started doing the camel farm circuit (i'm a newbie though) - good fun! |
Or a Betty... Mine is awesome for moving bikes/stuff around in. :-)

29ers are for the new breed of MTB users
I am still old skool cool on the 26 inch MTB LOL Tried mounting my bike carrier on my Wagon but the end of the bike carrier hangs to far over the end off the factory crossmember and fowls the wagon rear door from fully opening... Thinking i may have to turn it around so over hang is at front |
26" is mountain biker
29" is roady in disguise. Ive ridden both, and will stick to 26". 29" just make the ride boring, it takes all the fun out of having to pick good lines and try that little harder to carry speed. They are fast though. |
haha didn't mean to start a 26" vs 29" debate. I'm happy with my choice.
Just out of interest what 29er did you ride Tony? |
I raced a specialized camber 29'er at the jarrahdale 6hr last year. 100mm front and rear, Borrowed it off Wembley cycles. I normally ride a trek remedy. But wanted to try a 29"er for the race. I did do a lap on my remedy and wasnt impressed by how much the camber fuck me over on the tight stuff. On the remedy i flew threw it, on the 29'er i felt like i was on a fricken boat. On the climbs the 29'er was faster though. Its hard not to but one now, its all the bikeshops are pushing.
