Default Buying advice - 05 WRX

Hey Guys,

Relatively new here, just wanted some advice.

Am currently in the market for an 05 WRX with low kms and a reputable service history, haven't been able to come across a STI yet that hasn't been modded like crazy but have found a few WRP10's that look the part.

Just wanted some advice when it comes to actually inspecting them. Are there any tell tale signs to look out for that it's actually genuine?

Also, I know on paper this puts out 175kw, I guess I won't actually tell the difference until I drive it, but can anyone on here shed some light as how it drives compared to a standard WRX? Is it worth that extra $$$ or should I just get an STI?

This is one I was thinking of looking at

2005 Subaru Impreza S WRX WRP10 MY05 All Wheel Drive

Is anyone familiar with this car? Just a bit wary of the low kms, too good to be true or is it just me?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers

A WRP10 is basically the same as a WRX, but with added wank, most of which you will replace anyway if you are at all interested in car modifications.

That price is bullshit too....05 + 06/07 STIs can be had for 24-28k nowadays...

As for the question regarding WRX vs STI...if it's going to be strictly a street car, my recommendation would be to just buy a WRX. Don't be one of those muppets who spend enough money on a WRX to cover the purchase of an STI though....

I've had a WRP10 before and I can tell you I regret not just going straight for a STi. Like others have said its basically like a standard WRX with a few extra goodies. In the long run you will spend less on a STi than a WRX.

Hold out and look for a nice STi. It'll be worth the wait.

Oh, there was one on say for about 22k. 05 STi with ~90,000km.

Yeah that's heaps expensive for a WRX, even if it is WRP10 badged!

Speaking of 05 wrx's I have an 05 that I'm considering selling; rare colour, only just ticked over 100k (100k service already completed), serviced by the very best (STechnic) and producing 176kwatw on a very mild tune.

Before buying my Sti I rang Subaru AU and ran a VIN check on the vehicles I was keen on. They can tell you what, where and when the car was sold as new, service history ( if serviced by Subaru ) and warranty/recall claims. I eventually avoided the 08 STI's because of the recall issues they had and went for a 09. Pretty anal
I know but it's my money and my peace of mind in the end.

Not anal at all. ^^

When i got my STI, the last owner did not have a logbook because it had been stolen, so i called every dealership which had serviced the car to make sure it had regular service intervals. After i bought the car i purchased a new logbook and drove around to every dealer to get it stamped lol.
