Question 06/07 STi Stock boost solenoid or get a GrimmSpeed one?

Noob query...

I'm about to get TBE+fuelpump+tune and I'm wondering if I should change the stock boost controller to the Gimmspeed one or not.

Would the stock sti boost solenoid handle the tune and raising boost to 17-20psi easy?
not sure what boost PSI it would get tuned to or if the stock turbo would handle those levels of boost....

anyone who has tried stock solenoid then changed to Grimmspeed, did it make a difference?
Should I change the boost solenoid or stock is fine until you change turbo etc?

Stock solenoid will hold that boost. Grim speed would be better, however, if it's installed fully with all 3 ports (rather than just two) losing the restrictor pill then you need a retune.

Thanks...
So what I pick up from reading the guide is 3 port solenoid is better as it allows your turbo to spool faster and can also maintain higher levels of boost plus bonus gets rid of restrictor pill.

So basically go get the Grimspeed one before my tune? or I got it wrong? :P

That would be correct BUT it allows greater resolution of boost control rather than spool faster/maintain higher boost. This may be a result though dependent on your tuner abilities to tune with the greater resolution ...

I do like the fact you really have decided to forget your warranty and mod the crap out of the car. If you're going to void it, void the hell out of it.
jzn14 and RJ999 like this.

exactly

will prob void anything turbo related once I put that boost controller in...other things should still be covered somehow...I hope so anyway but dont give a damn now...horsepower I will own u

Did you start modding yours too then and not worry about the warranty?

Mine had no limits on any parts, just up to the value of the car itself, so hopefully unmodded stuff might still be covered.

I will ring Allianz(thats the warranty guys) to find out tomorrow what they say about an aftermarket exhaust, if it voids the whole warranty or just that part and anything related to it. I have a feeling that I'm not going to get an answer I like and will be @#$@%@#d off

My mods are mostly cosmetic at the moment, but will most likely change in the future.

I've already done sway bars and springs...like a week after buying it, so if that would have void the warranty, well its gone!

I'm still going to ring up tomorrow to find out exactly...will update this thread.

Tony...
Sounds good, I'll take it if unused/brand new...
Is it the one with the fitment kit for the 06/07 STi - Part number 057002.
