Default Launch Control - tried replicating without, got clutch smell

Im getting my car Verso'ed tmo...

I want to get LC (Launch Control) enabled but not too sure how safe it is for my clutch etc.

Watched some videos on youtube, looks like its set at 5500 rpm then just dump the clutch..
I tried doing it just then(Without ECU LC) to see what it would do, revving to 5500 rpm and letting go(prob not quick enough), clutch wasn't happy at all (Was like I sprayed Eau de Clutch in the car!).

So does LC with the ECU work differently? will it destroy my clutch? or does the ECU kind of drop revs once its dumped so as not to break it then push through...

Does anyone here have it on an 06/07 STi? would really appreciate some feedback

Having tough time deciding on getting it or not tomorrow...

EDIT: forgot to mention, still the stock STi clutch

Find take up point of clutch first so you have a little engagement. Don't just just let rip from the floor. Either way your clutch is gonna wear faster than normal.

Don't be afraid to get it enabled, you don't have to use it all the time.

Something I noticed on my betty was launching with the oem tyres was a piece of piss, it would light up all four easily. Now I run ad08's so it aint so easy, I stopped...

If you want launch control for wank factor then you are wasting your money and our time
It is a good way to break a lot of shit if you don't know what you are doing which it sounds like in your post
Do you do lots of track days/competition????
I DON'T have launch control on my rally car as so many things can change when you are at the start line grip levels wet/dry
You should be able to get off the line as good if not better without launch control
My 2 cents

I have it enabled on my ECU, apparently because I like to wank (which is a tough argument to deny admittedly), and while only having used it only a very few times nothing has broken. It sounds sexy and gives you a decent shove, but ultimately does sweet fuck all else on a street driven car. So much hatin', what happened to the P-Diddy man love?

AD08s will still spin if you launch at RAC on that glassy bit of road leading onto the skid pan

No hating at all
But in order to make an informed decision you need to know the pros and cons
I would hate for him to get it and then start posting up tried launch control and busted a driveshaft, hub, clutch etc etc etc

I get clutch smell launching my car at 5500rpm aswell. You can choose to have it lower than 5.5k if you wish. I reckon get it. Its not like its going to cause any problems if you get it and it doesnt get used. But you will always have it if you want it. Also clutchs are cheap to replace.

Yea no need to hate please... Matty I just sound like someone who wants to find out rather than just go out and break shit! Yes I do track days but not competition, its my daily, just the club championships maybe.

Nick I didn't let rip, was more like I took too long to release from the engagement point and nurtured it all the way out, should have just let go at this point.

I will get it and probably won't use it most of the time, but will come in handy for track days.

Yes I do love the sound too

Launching in the dirt is sick look: (set at 4500rpm in the vid) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kr6zXPWeEbs

p.s: is this vid working? my embedding skills aren't that great on pwrx

NO HATE at all
Just remember launch on gravel is very different to tarmac wheels will always spin on gravel you have to make the wheels spin on tarmac hence why shit breaks easier
