Must have Race-Car feeling.

*My mind is set on an STi this time bud, I've spent a lot of money in the past just trying to get close to STi spec and even then it wasn't the same.

* Those are good deals on the 2010 WRX's, surprised to see them going for that cheap.

In all seriousness I'm going to get an STi this time around. The past 3 WRX's I've had where fantastic but when I look back I did end up spending at least $5k on each one and never had the performance, braking, interior finishes of the STi's. So I'll bite the bullet and get one this time.

Interesting that the 2005 STi packs the same specs as the 2009 WRX but I can see the value in suspension mods and overall quality enhancements that the STi brings to the table.

This threads been extremely helpful in educating me on the pro's and cons of the different versions.

Stopping tests have improved (going by reading reviews around the time of my purchase) and going by memory it's the piston/pot design or size that has improved a touch. It would be like 0-100 and 1/4 mile times though... a bee's dick of difference. I just don't get why people say they're "terrible". Compared to a set of Brembos sitting on a STi... well, yeh.

Yeah I for one am sick of hearing about the failure rate of 08's. I spoke to a gentleman at MMS when he did my pre-purchase inspection on my betty. He said 'they all have chocolate pistons, they have since around 2002' - hypereutectic

I was also told it was an ecu related issue ( nothing to do with piston/ringlands ) and all 08-09's were recalled for it and other first series gremlins.

I was also told the ej257 is basically the same since introduction, only the dual avcs is different and maybe the treated crank.

Alpha if you can stretch to the 08sti and it passes inspection you would be
mad to pass up.

If you want come for a ride in one that is lightly modded let me know.

Alpha quote the vin number to Subaru Aus and they will tell you where/when that 08sti was recalled and why.
