USA Dave's BRZ Build

So here's the idea ... Dave takes Foz motor and puts into new BRZ.

So there are two poll options:

Dave should put Foz motor into a new BRZ
Dave's a girl if he doesn't
Start voting ...

Judging by this pic there's no chance of running a BRZ as AWD.......Oh so sad!

the gearbox is about 2 feet too far back......Oh the shame Subayota - what were you thinking?????

GTB Liberty 15-04-2014 05:07 PM

I blame Toyota.

However, it would to epic skids with RWD and 350Hp.

astralex 15-04-2014 05:09 PM

I personally can't stand the BRZ/86/Scion/budget racecar wannabe. So I went with no.

RJ999 15-04-2014 05:32 PM

I voted no... as will need to mod chassis to fit ej25 in there which makes it impossible to road reg, then Dave won't be able to get the kids to school in it

Could you please reference where it says "mod chassis".

Soksta 15-04-2014 05:57 PM

Can any on confirm if the EJ mounts are in the same position as the FA/FB?

GTB Liberty 15-04-2014 06:24 PM

Biggest issues are bell housing and starter motor on opposite side versus FA. It's still a tight squeeze though.

The other idea is put a LSx motor in it?

ThatLegend 15-04-2014 07:05 PM

I know this is a Subaru but he could go the other avenue and take the Toyota approach and whack in a 2JZ?

SL33P3R 15-04-2014 07:11 PM

Or you just change the pistons and put a turbo on and have 300hp+ in a 1200kg rwd car

This.
Why not just turbo the FA. Crawford seems to think it's better and more reliable at making power than the ej anyway...

RJ999 15-04-2014 08:30 PM

^Crawford are also the same bunch that say you can make 400-500hp atw on the 06-14 EJs with stock internals and this reliable engine will last you years :pottytrai

Dan [GTI] 15-04-2014 08:33 PM

The BRZ / 86 is expensive to make anything over 240HP and that is as far as I would want to push on the stock internals and clutch. Let's be honest it will cost you $7000 - $1000 to get that power... Not a cheap car.

They are a cool car, but parts and the car itself is over priced for what it offers.

munya 15-04-2014 09:10 PM

Ej e85 voted for me which reminds me I still need the e85 stuff Andrew help need motivation.

StephenR 15-04-2014 09:45 PM

way too much effort to put a EJ in and make it work.
One customer who has been smashing track days at wanneroo for the best part of a year has had no issues with the FA 20 motor and was tuned at tokyo motorsport after turbo conversion and is making around 276 hp at the rears.

Imo, efficient cooling, good tune and good mechanical sympathy (ie no boost before oil is hot) can greatly increase ej25 potential.

teejay 15-04-2014 10:40 PM

Dave's wife and kids are not fake, he is not gay, so why the fuck would he want a BRZ?

Riggs 16-04-2014 10:09 AM

Buy my motor and drop it in.

drewgong 16-04-2014 10:37 AM

no boost before oil is hot
This ^^ for all EJ longevity..... My Oil temp takes about 5 KM to come off the 30c bottom stop on my defi gauge - not many are aware of how long the oil takes to warm up and thin down.

ditto on my old wrx, and the temp gauge on the dash would be at about halfway after around 2 minutes of driving, false sense of security

s20525xxx 16-04-2014 01:51 PM

I use my oil pressure gaige as guide line, take 3km (summer) to 5km (winter) for oil to be warm, should it be more accurate?

I let is sit and idle for 5 mins before any driving

Rossco 16-04-2014 02:01 PM
I let is sit and idle for 5 mins before any driving
oil will still be <30c after 5 mins AD.

I don't boost my car until it hits 60c, on my daily grind I drive from Wembley Downs and get on the freeway at Cedric St - the temp comes up as I pass over scarb bch rd - this is after maybe 2 mins idle on the driveway at home as I get my shit together.

Am I overly cautious? - Probably but I've never popped a bottom end either.

American Dave 16-04-2014 02:15 PM

I don't even bother with boost around town thanks to E85

JRecardo 16-04-2014 02:18 PM

Sounds like I need an oil temp guage, I have been using the dash temp gauge as a boosting time guide, and that's up in a couple of minutes :o

Tony 16-04-2014 02:41 PM

Even my missus wont boost the car till the defi gauge is at least showing 60c.

phizzle 16-04-2014 03:06 PM

Put a rotor in one
