Oh yeah too easy, as fair as I've heard the new foresters are pretty good, I'll be looking that way as well when my wife is due for a new car..

Checkout http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/ as there are a few guys on there with em..

The outback would be worth checking out as well (there's a new one about to be released soon)

I have thought about diesels, however I'm concerned about the issues people are having with DPF's.

With a car that is going to be driven aroundnd with a car that will be driven around suburbia for 90% of the time I would rather not risk having a DPF to worry about.

On a side note, didn't realise that my sister had recently purchased a Forrester 2.5i and took it for a bit of a drive on the weekend.
Must admit that the space inside was quite nice and the visibility to the rear and side of the car was quite impressive.

We've got the 2.0D Foz MY12. Had it for a good 18months now from new and had no issues with the DPF. We've done one trip down south in it, but apart from that it's a daily round town drive. I think the key is to not drive it like a nanna, then the re-gen cycles can get completed.

I'm on my second diesel Nissan...had the first for 5 yrs with no issues.
My GF has an '09 Forester (different engine to current Foz) and whilst it's a nice drive it is pretty gutless compared to a turbo diesel...

I also was looking at these on the weekend, very good value! Only issue is, would it be good enough easily to tow my STI on a trailer... I'm afraid the answer would be no.

As soon as towing comes into it, you're straight out of a subarus reach. Maybe a Tribecca could but that is uglier than the chicks in the phototography thread :-p

Get a Hilux.

What model forrester?
We have been looking at the XT, possible the premium, so it won't be as gutless as the n/a range.

I'll look into the turbo diesel and do some research into it, will be looking at the Forrester/CX-5 this weekend.

Thanks for the input so far guys!

Edit: Forrester diesel variants appear to be offered in manual only, so they are out as the car has to be an auto =/
