Selling a car privately

Hey all not sure if theres a thread for this

When selling a car what are the procedures or documents I need as I've never done it before? Ive got the green/red document from post office already is that all?

So they pay me then we both sign that thing and submit them and thats it?

Selling a car privately

They pay you the cash for the car, at that time you both fill out those documents and sign them, you both get a copy of each others then take it down to the licensing centre, once you've done your part they have to take theirs down and pay the transfer fees, that's it.

It should say whose copy is whose at the top once they are filled in.

You don't need to go to the licensing centre, just mail it in. You have something like 7 days as the seller to send it in

Also, if you have custom plates you need a separate form for those

Ahh wasn't sure if you could just mail it in or not, been awhile.

If someone gives you a deposit make it known to them that it is not refundable

Generally a deposit is for the purpose of the seller to hold on to the car and miss potential sales for the buyer who gave the deposit in the first place, if they dick you around, you could have sold it in that time you were holding on to it, that money is then compensation to you.

General judge of character for test drive, if you're not sure then you drive it yourself with them rising shotgun

Pretty sure they're custom

If going for a test drive, you hold on to the keys until you are sitting in the passenger seat, and at the end of the drive you take the keys before exiting the car, so they can't drive off

Only allow test drives after deposit and ask to see their drivers license
