Brembo brakes: need modification approval?
Hi guys, do you know whether I'll need a modification permit/approval if I installed Brembo calipers (front and rear) to a non-STI wrx or any other impreza?
Has anyone received a yellow sticker for running Brembo's on their non-STI rex? |

They can pretty much make you get engineers cert's for whatever they like, so its kind of a defunct question.
I've taken my GC8 over the pits, with brembos, they asked me to prove the braided lines were ADR approved and that was it. Run the gauntlet, you'll be fine |

Thanks. Yeah forgot about the brake lines. The one's I have are HEL stainless braided, but it just says DOT approved. How do I know if they're ADR approved?
Alternatively, do you know which braided lines are definitely ADR approved? Anyways the car is actually a Toyota 86. I'm taking it for inspection because i'm fitting a Sprintex supercharger. They come with a permit/approval plate that you stick on the door sill. But I was told by Sprintex that i'll still be required to bring it in for inspection, no engineer's report required. So whilst i'm there, they might notice my Brembo's and Bilstein coilovers. Unless I remove them prior..... By the way the Brembo's were a straight bolt on job, no brackets needed, if that makes any difference. Last edited by Fizz; 01-12-2014 at 02:17 PM. |

You are taking it voluntarily?! As in you haven't got a yellow sticker?
The proper process as i understand it, is to fill in a modification application form. From there, the DPI will either approve in principal (now go and get it inspected and permitted), or they will flat out ask for it to be engineered. I would hazard a guess and see irrespective of what sprintex say, they'll ask you to have it engineered. I'll also put a large wager on you not getting coilovers permitted, they must retain a certain amount of the factory droop (i think this was the term used), no coilovers will pass this test. Unless i've misunderstood your situation, if it were me, i'd be doing the mods, and forgetting about permits/engineers/inspections. and if you get a yellow, deal with it when the time comes. Thanks for all that info guys! Good stuff. Yes I'm doing it voluntarily....no yellow sticker (yet). I'd like to get it done "right" so that I can insure my car, and also not worry about trouble with cops.
Coilovers I'm not so worried about, I can just get Koni or Bilstein dampers with eibach springs....and that should be fine. I know there's no guarantees, but I gather that with my Brembo (with HEL lines) conversion I should be fine without engineers report.....yeah? Now with the sprintex kit, this is what they provide: Sprintex says i'll still need to take it over the pits, but Tokyo says not required. So i'm confused. |

I'd listen to Tokyo, they are local, sprintex are not.
In all honesty i think you're crazy - end of the day, you may be permitted for the blower, and all the peripherals, but if a cops having a slow day, they can pick you for anything. As for insurance not covering it, i dont know where you got that information. If you use an insurer that caters to our crowd (shannons for example), they will add your modifications to the policy, and increase the sum insured in line with what you've spent. Permits, engineers certs dont come into the equation. But hey, its your time and money, do as you please! |

Well....sprintex is local as well, their HQ is in Malaga.
I've read the PDS from shannons and justcars, and they both state cover will only be provided to modifications that are legal. Do you really think insurance companies are going to cover a vehicle with illegal mods? |

I spoke to shannons regarding the brembos when it came time for me to renew. They stated that they would be more likely to reduce the cost of the premium as bigger brakes are considered a safety feature.
Call has been recorded as well, so I can't see it being a problem Sent from my LG-D802T |
