This is actually pretty relevant to all of us who enjoy the fruits of modifications. Quite serious if it gets passed and no doubt all in the name of the almighty dollar. For example, GM would then have exclusive jurisdiction of your (their??) vehicle being that you couldn't take it to a cheap mechanic for services nor do them yourself because they would no doubt say the warranty would be voided. Obviously without competition, they could charge what they like, no way that'd be less than what they already charge which is tantamount to highway robbery at the best of times. Decreased competition is never a good thing!

It may have already begun for Subaru vehicles.

The diesel Forester and Outback require the ECU to be "notified" of an oil change at service time, as the ECU accommodates for oil getting diluted with diesel over time. Without the ECU "notification" it doesn't know its had an oil change and runs at the wrong parameters. That's the Matto-non-technical explanation.

Who can do this ECU notification after an oil change on a Subaru diesel? Subaru... MRT... and maybe a couple of Subaru performance workshops? Other general mechanics, probably not?

It has begun...

Australian Consumer Law type stuff should nip this crap in the bud, tell the car companies they can't sell their cars here if they want to pull this shit.

I am pretty sure that RomRaider has already written code for diesel foz's. We used to have gadgets to reset BMW service intervals too back in the late 80's. Now I feel old....
