Default to keep 98 sti type r or sell and get bugeye sti

Hey guys i thought this was the best place to get some input. Iam from canada and we have a 15 year import rule. So the bugeye sti is just becoming importable to canada. Im currently driving a 98 sti type r turboback apexi power fc header uppipe 1 piece turbo inlet etc basic bolt ons sway bars coils. Im debating on going to a bugeye sti with the 6spd and brembos. I track my car anout once a month. On track days and autocross. Im very crossed between the two vehicles I know the engine is known to be a great ej207 paired with a great transmission and brakes in the bugeye vs the v4 sti with the ej20k 4/2 pot and dccd 4.44 final drive. Im worried i will sell my type r and be very dissapointed with the bugeye being bigger and heavier. Has anyone else done this transition. Id love to hear some input from you guys!

In the past 2 months I have test driven two bug eye STI's that have been for sale on the local market here, and I have been very disappointed by it. The bug eye feels heavy and sloppy to drive. It didn't put me back into the seat as my 99 WRX does when boost comes on. The Brembo brakes on the STI felt fantastic!

Both bug eye STI's were stock, with no mods at all.

Coming from someone that has gone from a 99 Version 5 STi Coupe to later model GD and beyond STi's, stick with your 98 mate, you will regret it if you go the bug..

GC8 STi's in good condition are becoming collectables if looked after. Also, they are so much more fun to drive than GDs.
GDs feel heavy and commodore like,.... well maybe not that bad but you get what i mean.

I am a GC8 fanboy but here are some thoughts. The bugeye is bigger and heavier and has a stiffer body giving more comfort. So for the track, keep your 98.
For the road, I'd still stick with the 98,
There are various mods that can stiffen the suspension without loosing too much in the way of NVH -ah! you have already got sway bars and coilovers.
So, much as given by the guys above, stick with your 98sti.

I vote keep the 2-door!

They say a change is as good as a holiday. Well in this case I say a holiday is as good as a change. Don't drive the GC8 for a month then come back to it. Voilà! Instant love again for the current car.

The fact you track the car is MORE reason to keep the lighter GC8...
TROLLEY and REXXXED 2.0 like this.

2 door Sti is to Subaru as 73 RS is to Porsche. The older they become the cooler it will become.
