Brant Installer

Hi all

I'm looking for a place in WA that has experience in installing the brant system. Also apart from the key pad what other things I need for it? like the siren? or what ever else

Cheers

Trust me you do NOT want brant installed .. there are other systems similar but avoid brant ..

using the Perth-WRX mobile app

I've had the system in my WRX for 7 years and once had a problem maybe due to direct sunlight on the key pad during summer and had to replace the module. Apart from that it has worked perfect, Also earlier this year I had a break and they stole my keys and was lucky to push the car up to the corner of the street before giving up. So i really do want one in my next WRX. I am still interested in looking for a installer but what other system are there that do a key pad like the Brant? I heard people saying they hate the Brant with all the problems but im one that has been 100% happy with little faults.

I'd be keen to hear what other options there are aswell. But from experience aswell the Brant was never really a issue. :)

Don't install the Brant. I say this for a simple reason: They're everywhere. If you use something that is mainstream, then you'll be sure that more people know how to circumvent it. The standard "from subaru install" of a Brant was all done in the same way for huge batches of vehicles. As such, anyone who has removed one, will know either what you have to cut/connect on the main harness to bypass it, or which bits to short out on the circuit board to bypass it. Most of the time in less than 90 seconds.

I am more paranoid than most, so this bit of advice is something that some people say is over the top: Don't get a normal installer to put any security device in your car. Get a trusted friend to do it or do it yourself. If you get your anti-hijack installed at the local car stereo place, do you really know who has done it ? Do you trust their apprentice that saw your pride and joy and knows exactly how the alarm is installed ? Do you trust that the apprentice will not spout off to his mates at the pub about the awesome WRX and how he knows how to steal it ?

If you can, install it yourself. Hey, build it yourself. Start with:

Here for backlit metal keypads:
KB304-MNS-WP-B ACCORD - Keypad: universal | TME - Electronic components

Here for a hyped up 32bit 72 Mhz CPU board (Arduino compatible)
https://www.pjrc.com/store/teensy32.html

And use a LM2940C for the power supply, not that shitty LM7805 stuff.

... then in no time you will have a system that nobody has ever seen, installed or bypassed before.

Or... just get a trunk monkey

I think going for a trunk monkey is probably the best option lol

I hear what your saying, as the Brants is not common in the newer WRX's and the Sigma system is more installed and a lot not even installed at all. It's more the older models of WRX's that used the Brants, plus people had some of theres disabled for there own reasons, not sure what year they slowed down on which means the common car thieves have next to no idea how to bypass them properly. Ripping the key pad out disables the car and jumping under the bonnet does the same this is from experience. I spoke to a person at a local car shop that knows the Brants well and said it takes a little bit of time to bypass them without bricking the car and thats a pro at work, is a pity he left. I know the quick way of bypassing it but you still need to speak to Brant or Subaru over the phone from memory.

Still I want to way up my options and see who does it or what other systems are out there that do the same thing. I dont plan to have it done in the same suburb or give my address out so it cuts down the chances of a inside job. I'm not that handy so i will stick with a pro.

Anyways I think it kind of went off topic and got Hi jacked with everyone's opinions/advice which I really do appreciate.

Still down to the question. Where is there a place in WA that has experience in installing the Brant system? and what other Systems are out there that can do the same thing?

Some people on here have upgraded from the stock Brant alarm to an Autowatch alarm.

Talk about paranoid!

Please enlighten us as to what is so special about your 09 WRX that a professional/licenced car alarm installer may consider doing an "inside job" to steal your precious vehicle.

My advice; get a quality alarm (perhaps an Autowatch) installed by a licenced car security installer, and comprehensively insure your vehicle with a reputable insurance company, advising them of the make and model of alarm fitted.
