Collectability of ADM sti's
 

A quick one. The ongoing cost of licensing, insuring and running my 05 sti doesn't gel with my current lifestyle plans. I still love it and am reluctant to sell (cbf fixing a few little things ATM). So I am thinking of hard parking it for a while. Do you think they will begin to appreciate in time? I'm thinking a 10yr plan probably.

Thoughts?

Sell up otherwise it'll be worth bugger all once the import laws change and special edition jap ones can be bought in for a good price.

That's my opinion anyway.

Maybe if it had only 1000kms on the ODO, and was totally 100% stock.

Is it just me or a ver 5 and 6 sti's (in good condition) starting to go up in value. Given they have a lot of history and hard to come by in good condition

the Market for "classic/collector" cars is as fickle as anything, just because certain things are hot now doesn't mean they will be in 10 years. In my opinion the whole collector car craze that's gripping car culture at the moment will blow over once the investment banking types who are buying these cars wake up to the actual cost of owning a 20+ year old car and move on to something new. People have short attention spans and the same thing happened in the late 80s before it all went bust.

Specific to the 05 sti as well, as much as it has a bit of racing pedigree, scarcity drives value and theres a few of them around, not to mention the potential for more if import rules get changed as mentioned above.

You also can't just park a car up undercover for 10 years, if you want to preserve it you need to stick it in a temperature controlled environment and turn it over every now and then.

Above all else though the fun of cars is using them, and once you start worrying about what its worth, you've missed the point.

Best comparison I can think of is ford escorts.

Can understand opinions, regarding using it. It's a very expensive to run daily - fine when I was single but I'm 39 with a wife, toddler and building a house. Car hasn't done 90,000km.
Basically it's worth very little already..I do enjoy driving it..

I'm thinking of keeping it for my son, he can learn to drive in a 27yo awd petrol turbo manual hahaha..

It's a if you can afford it and don't care about resale then keep. Bar some already well known collectables.
