Recommemded Oil
Hi Guys,
Newbie here, had a look for an answer but still undecided, recently bought a 2007 wrx with some mods such as sti turbo, bigger injectors and fuel pump. Have 120,000ks on the clock, due for my first oil change, subaru recommends 5w30 and i know the genuine stuff is Castrol Edge. I spoke to S&J and they recommended ULX110 10w30. If i was to go with Castrol Edge, what subaru recommends, id be more inclined to go with a 10w30 rather than a 5w30 as i think thats too thin. What do you guys run? Anyone tried ULX110? Thanks in advance. |
Well I am a Redline fan so that is the brand I recommend.
ULX, a new name to me so I looked it up. Claimed to use a non-synthetic base, curious. I see from the site that ULX110 do 5w30 as well as 10w30. Choosing 5w or 10w- depends on your climate and especially on cold start conditions. If you keep your car in a garage and do not start it early on cold mornings then 10w is ok. If you do a lot of cold starts, then go for 5w over 10w. If Subaru recommend 5w30 for your area, then use 5w30 rather than 10w30. |
Very clever marketing
Gets to the population hey ! |
I use 10/60 Castrol Edge in my tarmac car...for what it's worth...

If it's just a street car use the recommended oil. If it's a track car speak with S & J about it. I drove my betty 2 - 3 days a week and tracked it once a month for four years on castrol egde 5w/30. Oil always held up well, was only sprint racing and drags though.
