Timing belt disaster

Hi all I had my 200 thou timing belt done by a experienced mechanic how has been around for 50years and he botched it.
Leaking seals
Timing out by one tooth
One bolt that has been heated and rounded off.
The cost $1400
Now it’s going to cost me at least $800-$1000 to fix.
This really pisses me off for what they charge if I did work like that I would be ashamed. To many people these days want more money than what they are worth.

Isnt he liable for the damages?

bullet 02-03-2018 08:23 PM

Yes he might, but you know people these days like to put the blame on others.i would like to see trades these days have some balls and just do a good job instead of just trying to make a fortune.
I would like to see people today try to live in a depression without all there benefits.

It sucks having to pay for things twice, I feel your pain. After my new engine went in there were plenty of fuck ups that had to be rectified by the tuner before he could think about tuning the car. Then my new clutch gave up, turns out the thrust bearing was not replaced and the flywheel wasn't machined correctly.

So out comes my wallet again. Same scenario for me being that the mechanic was a very experienced Subaru mechanic and should have done a better job with all of it.

Good luck getting it sorted mate. I recently had a good experience with Mick from Japline if that's any help.

Thanks mate so far since the car turned 200 thou it’s cost me about 8 grand and for a car that’s thirteen years old.i won’t get my money back but I love my car it’s the best car I’ve ever owned.I thought about selling her and buying a commercial vehicle but just can’t do it.

How about... dont name the mechanic but name the suburb.

Hmmm. Subaru specialist, or general mechanic??

bullet 03-03-2018 04:28 PM

General mechanic he is a really nice bloke and maybe a good mechanic but not for Subaru’s and that’s as far as I’ll go!
I’m just pissed that I’m unemployed for two years and can’t take a trick and all I want is to drive my car she’s not the best wrx around but she’s mine.

Had a similar experience years ago and ever since I do everything myself, even if it takes time to learn you know things are done with time and care. Only things I don't do are things that need specialist machines eg. air con regas. everything else is DIY
