Ej255 rebuild
 

Hey guys, just rebuild a 255 because of cracked ringlands, surprise surprise haha. Its been rebuild with stock everything.
Can turn it over buy hand easy, it has a brand new starter motor but when i go to start it the starter just goes click click click, Thats even if it has 14v from a jump.
Used jumper leads to try earth it out ( just incase thats the issuse )but still no love.
Was wondering how much torque it should take to spin a long block?
Or any other advice would be appreciated

The earth from the battery bolts onto a little bracket thing that connects directly to the mounting bolt of the starter. (Bolt that goes through starter, gearbox and into engine block.) If thats on and tight and the rest of the battery terminals/connections are tight, then the battery may be bad. (Good voltage isnt nessisarily an indication of a good battery.)

Measure the voltage at the starter positve and starter bracket/case while trying to start. If the voltage remains close to 12v then the starter may be bad. If the voltage falls away rapidly while trying to crank, then you may have a battery/wiring issue.

I have a couple of working 2nd hand 5spd starters if you need to buy one. Cheap cheap.

Thanks for the offer of the starters but there is a brand new one in it.

Its an 06 forester xt and it doesnt have the bracket your talking about (i know the one your talking about as i have a 99 and a 00 wrx)

The earth/negative bolts to a terminal next to the positive and a small plug also that goes to the body of the starter

I would have assumed jumping it form my 4x4 while running that there would have been ample cranking apms (putting out 14v) but ive been wrong before and will happily admit ill be wrong again
