MY99 GC8 WRX potentional mods help

Hey all , I’m new to forum scene and I wanted to get a few opinions on the possible mods I’m going to do to my 98 wrx ( EJ20 2.0L ) , I want to try push 300-400hp. This is what I had in mind:

FMIC
TD06 - 18g ? ( not sure what turbo would push decent power and not have too much lag )
850cc injectors
CAI
walbro pump
Forged pistons
Forged rods
External wastegate
TBE
Aftermarket Unequal length headers
Stage 3 cams

That’s all I can think of at the moment if you have any other mods or suggestions I would appreciate!!

Thanks !!

Id ditch the td06-18g and go with a blouch xtr series turbo. Also bigger injectors and and an e85 safe fuel pump so you have the option of tuning on e85 as i assume you are going to run 98 predominantly? You may also want to look at getting a decent aftermarket ecu, link offer some really good plug in ecus and there are plenty of shops around who can tune it.

Drivetrain wise you will also need to look at upgrading to a 6spd gearbox 100% at thpse power levels. Not sure how the r160 rear diff would go at 400 so you may even need to go the whole hog and do a rear r180 conversion.

Thanks tony ,

Yeah I forgot to mention I was looking at getting a link g4
As for the blouch xtr I can only seem to find ones that r going for $2500 , a little pricey haha, I recently heard a 3071 might be alright ( thoughts ? )

As for the 6 speed I would eventually go that route but for the meantime the 5 speed should be alright as the car isn’t going to be a daily and get driven all the time

Look at a 207 swap over spending money to build an early ej20 block. They're shitting out 300-350hp with the right parts and good tuning, especially if you don't mind a sprinkle of e85. You will have to budget for a driveline swap earlier than you think if you want to drive it with any kind of anger.

Blouch is 2-2.5k but worth the money imo. An engine build would run you in the area of 10k so not sure why that would be the sticking point. A 1.5xtr is a perfect mate to a 2L looking for 300hp+.

Aftermarket ecu another consideration needed.

You could also spend 99% less money and have a nicely sorted decently quick car around the 250-260hp mark.

Thanks JRecardo,

Definitely take on what you’ve suggested , I’m going to do all the mods myself so hopefully won’t cost as much, as for intercooler do you reckon TMIC or FMIC and what would I be looking at upgrading if I were to just consider building a 250-260hp engine

New master gasket set
New timing belt kit
New water pump
New oil pump.
The list goes on and on, get ready for a 20k rebuild if you're buying headers, turbo aftermarket cams etc

If your goal is only 260hp then an sti tmic is fine
