Speeding Ticket Wtf!!
 

What a start to the morning, I was travelling to work along my normal route which is on winterfold road and then turn right onto Stock Road towards South Street.

When I turned onto Stock Road I saw 2 cops sitting there with their back's to the traffic so I looked down and I saw that I was doing the limit of 60 and about 200mtrs up the road it changes to 80, so when I gradually got to the sign I sped up to the limit of 80kmh. In this short space of time one of the cops jumped around and put up his speed gun(obviously hearing my car) and he only hailed me down when I was about to go past them which was about 100 or so meters after the 80kmh sign.

I asked what the problem was and he said that I was doing 79 in the 60, I mean WTF :mad: !! Does he have nothing better to do than try and ping people meters before a speed change, is this legal?? I argued with him that there was a change to 80kmh but he didn't care and issued me with A $100 fine and one demerit point.

If your story is true, I'd be disputing the ticket.

Sucks arrse mate! I wouldn't expect anything less from cops standing on the road looking to fill their quota before heading off for coffee and donuts though. They are cetaintly out their protecting us and making roads safer huh!

Yeap same thing happened to my hubby not to long ago cop was in an 80 zone just before the 100 zone change sign and pinged him, yes its legal and once again they say they arent revenue raising what a crock of shit!!

I would dispute that fine if that 79kph reading was after the 80kph sign, When I use to drive trucks that stretch of stock Rd heading North just before South street was very popular with the cops until the speed limit went up to 80 from 70.

Were you doing 80 before the sign or after? Unfortunately you are not allowed to speed up before the signs afaik so he may have you on a technicality. Also if they were 100 meters or so past the sign and you sped up just before/as you passed the sign I'd definately argue that he could not tell you where speeding 'before' the sign..

At the least consult a lawyer, most will give one free consult..

One of my friends got done under similar circumstances, except he was done by a speed camera which was sitting right next to a speed ilimit sign (i.e where the speed limit changed) He tried disputing it and lost.

Yes what you were doing was in the eyes of the law illegal. You were still in a 60 zone doing 79, which is what the police gun must have seen and in their eyes you were still in a 60 zone. I can see your point though, especially if you have to speed up to merge with traffic entering a freeway.

From your description the cops were out to get someone speeding by the placement of their car right on the speed zone boundary. I personally have nearly been done like that as well. It really depends on the mood and the cops in question.

SPEED TRAP alright. C*&t of a thing. Easy prey for the cops. Surely they have something better to do that contributes to road safety ???

Yeah he showed me the gun ever so quickly and it it read 79 and I was also almost on top of the sign before I sped up!! When he did jump out to pull me over he took his bloody time in doing so like he was tring to make up his mind on what to do!!

Fair enough if there was no sign and I was actually doing that speed through a 60 zone then I would cop it on the chin(pardon the pun) but this is a ticket that I will definately dispute.
