Best launch technique?

I know this has been covered a million times before, but what the best way to launch a Rexie for drags?

impreza_GT 23-11-2006 04:30 PM

most hold the rpm at 5000 and either drop or slip the clutch!

Best technique for me is to go on and off the pedal with the revs fluctuating from 4000-5500rpm. This is done quickly. sounds wicked if u have a BOV.

4500-5000rpm get it to friction point then drop it :D

Everythings already meshed up so its better than everything smashing together quickly!

When I launched my 1.780 60ft. It was revved between 6300 - 6800 and then dumped. It is hard to explain really because its not a full clutch dump. Gotta have a good feel for the accellerator and clutch. Its not just about revving the shit out of it and dumping the clutch.
Chee let me in on a little secret to prep yourself before take off to.
Rev to about 4500rpm to start with (this is prob a bit low but good place to start) then gently 'slip' the clutch while giving more throttle on take off. If you just pop straight off the clutch you get that 'thump & lag' feeling while your brain starts adding up repair bills! If you gently slip it while giving more throttle you will get that nice 'push' feel. If that isn't enough revs then try 5k, 5.5k, 6k little bit by bit to find the right bite & see how you go. It is exactly the same as taking off with 'normal driving' ie: gentle slip & more throttle but you are just starting with higher revs instead of 1500rpm like Nana does.

But remember, don't let it slip too much otherwise you get that lurvely smell. There is a fine line between "do or die"!
Thanks Heidi! :)

REDLINE and then SIDESTEP!!! HE HE HE :D

Seriously... Hold at 4500rpm just feathering the friction point and then smoothly but quickly come off the clutch pedal.

Redline and sidestep = 1.78 60 foot in liberty.

3 easy steps:

Thongs off, bash limiter, drop clutch

Sethor 23-11-2006 06:19 PM

Redline launches will cause too much wheelspin (or a smoked clutch) which will give you slow 60' times. I would suggest dropping the clutch at around 5K and depending on wheelspin use less RPM or bogging down use more RPM, after a few launches you should know roughly what RPM to launch at. Also you will notice few hundred RPM more is needed at the plex than on the street due to more traction at the Plex. Also try loading the drivetrain up using the handbrake to help with your launches.

I did a shocking launch the other day, as mentioned above, let out the clutch too softly at too high RPM .. smoked up the clutch. :( Probably did more damage doing that the being brutal and just dropping it.
