Do you get a better exhaust note (actually hear the boxer rumble)
with an STI exhaust over a standard Wrx one?

If so is this a good alternative to buying an aftermarket one?

So little difference it does not matter. Definately not an option instead of aftermarket.

I am running a 3" MRT TBE and STi muffler. It is very quiet inside but a good rumble outside. It suits me perfect as I go camping and I'm an old fart and droning would drive me insane.

try new link below. FYI, I bought the muffler almost new from Midas Ossy Park for $40.

I was just curious because if the standard sti my06 exhaust is sufficient for STI to produce its stock power ( which is significantly more than the WRX), then surely it will have some benifit to the WRX perhaps with a retune. Incidently a few months ago Race torque offered me an STI Exhaust which had been removed from an MY06 Sti for $250 about fitted.
