My Intro

Hi all, I just recently sold my honda integra and got myself a MY01 WRX in WRC Blue GDA. Looking forward to bring my car down to barbagallos next month, and was wondering what the normal drill consists of ? What needs to be done ?

Also, i've noticed that my braking seems insufficient for the amount of power that my wrx makes. Other than that, the car is a huge jump from my 1.8L NA vtec.. :D

SPEC IV 26-03-2009 06:40 PM

Welcome :)

What mods are you running so we can help you decide upon other mods etc..

Oh yeah, feel free to post up some pics :D

Pretty sure you need a CAMS license to run at Barbs.

reusedandamused 27-03-2009 12:39 AM

Bog stock at the moment :o I got the car in prime condition in hopes of doing it up the right way for occasional track days at barbagallos...

How does a stock wrx hold up on the track ?

Will post up pics soon once i get my hands on a camera..

EXPLICIT 27-03-2009 09:13 AM

They hold up just fine. If anything make sure you have decent pad life in the brakes and flush your brake fluid.

AIG 28-03-2009 12:16 PM

Welcome. I had the same car (also stock) and did a number of track days with it. High temp brake fluid is a must. Brake pads also if your current ones have limited life left. I had no issues at Barbagallo but Collie was hard on the brakes. You'll also need a fire extinguisher mounted in the car to run at Barbagallo.

scoobygez 28-03-2009 12:26 PM

get some piccys up

as for track use depending on how hard you drive it suspension and brakes would be on top of my list before any engine mods etc etc

or just take it and try it out see what ya think ya self....

oh and welcome to the forum and enjoy :) :)

Hey all, this may be a little side track from an intro, but the car feels really sluggish under 2000rpm.. e.g. 5th Gear at 70km/hr .. the car feels like its gonna stall.. or really sluggish feeling.. I have to keep it at 4th gear 60-70km/hr... Is this a standard wrx thing ?

SPEC IV 28-03-2009 10:24 PM

5th gear is a cruising gear mate. Don't expect it to pull really quickly when you put your foot down in 5th.

ALEX. 28-03-2009 10:25 PM

hahahahaaaaaaa.

...that is all.

But seriously, it might just be turbo lag - the rex doesn't have the same power down low that your old NA Honda would have had, so you might just be subconsciously (and consciously) adjusting to it.

Either that or it's coz you bought a bugeye ;) Sorry all, had to.

Welcome to PWRX and hope you enjoy it and your car :)

EDIT: Daz beat me to it by a minute.

But I agree with what people have said: If you want to improve your car for a relatively low price (and before you start chucking more power into it before you know what it's really capable of) I'd also go pads+fluid first, then think about the rotors and tyres. Next I'd do suspention as that has a significant effect on the way the car will handle on the track at speed.that's just me though. If you use the 'search' function you will find all the info you need on what is a good starting point, as well as discussions on all the things mentioned above

Sounds like its the lag of the turbo. Typically all turbo cars suffer from being in lag. Going from experience my car (although it had a bigger turbo then factory and a FMIC) at 70km/h in 5th mine will take a while to spool and hit boost at 3,033rpm. You can get 110km/h in second gear with a standard ratio my00 so judging by that it will take a while to get up exhaust gas to spool the turbo if you are in 5th.

I dont think you can compare it to a normal N/A car if you are attempting to either. From my understanding the compression on a turbo motor is signifigantly lower to compensate for the turbocharger (ratio of 7 for example). So off boost it will feel slower then a N/A car with a higher compression (ratio is 10 for example)

stebaun 28-03-2009 11:02 PM

i have a my01 as well its normal. my01 has longer ratios than the my02 and is heavier than the my00 so stock it will def be sluggy.

reusedandamused 31-03-2009 03:33 AM

hmm.. its been feeling kinda slow lately... I might get it checked out at Tenagah...

Fearing that its not a worn out turbo... :(

meatbag 31-03-2009 03:56 AM

good excuse to upgrade!

jEstEr? 09-04-2009 08:22 AM

153 on the tenagah roller dyno eh, i must take my car there and see how it compares to the ASG hub dyno

RichX 09-04-2009 08:44 AM

Sounds about right, whats that around 120kw? Interestingly thats what my car made with a 3" TBE, intake, pump, spray, STI top mount etc .. Then up to 160kw after a tune with a bit more boost, so goes to show that you really need to tune your mods on the later models.

If you're going to be doing some mods, Do not forget that on the 01/02's that there is a cat in the up-pipe and you'll want this to be one of the first things to go.

Do a search around these forums and you'll find some good info.

jEstEr? 09-04-2009 09:04 AM

153.5 horsepower = 114.46493 kilowatts

reusedandamused 09-04-2009 06:15 PM

Holy Crap.. 40kw+ for Intake,TBE, Pump, STI TMIC, and Tune ?.. Bang for buck mate..

Did you verso tune it ?

+ a turbo upgrade and get another 40kw :)
Intake, 3" TBE, pump, STi intercooler, TD05-16G and a tune(VERSO) got me to 200kw on my WRX(2003).

Do it!

Btw, welcome :)

reusedandamused 10-04-2009 01:21 PM

200kw atw for a WRX must feel awesome to drive.. faster than EVO VI TME by much ?

saturation 10-04-2009 01:52 PM

probably close, i hear the TME;'s are much lighter though.

siaw 10-04-2009 04:50 PM
