from V8 to 06 STI

G’day,

Was going to post this earlier joined 2 or so weeks ago after buying my 06 STI 2.5l.

So far I am loving it, I was after a change from the RWD V8 scene - I had a XR8 with 245rwkw and still the stocker STI I reckon out accelerates it.
Top end not so much (XR8 would have it in a race from say 80 – 160 or so)

Already got some mods T’d up for early to mid Nov

Intake kit, fuel pump, fuel & boost controller, blouch TD05, TBE and upgraded process west TMIC.
As I am only keen to stick to say 300awhp would it be worth it to even upgrade the top mount? Or will the STI unit suffice?

Tuneskis will be covered next Tuesday having a Pioneer P80-R, Eton A1 Splits, Focal 13” 33v2 sub, ARC 1000.1 mono block and ARC 300.4 installed. I initially didn’t want to hit the stereo store but the standard Subaru units are Cr@p to put it politely.

19” Oz Racing Ultraleggera wheels in white – to be done post engine work.

Cheers and enjoy the pics

matthews 18-10-2010 01:19 PM

Welcome, not to many pic on offer.

Rossco 18-10-2010 01:20 PM

Welcome~! I guess there's a tune factored in to that lot ^^

RUSSGT 18-10-2010 01:40 PM

Stick with the current Top Mount Intercooler. Some say they are better that the PW ones anyway. I deffo wouldnt say the PW was an upgrade anyway!

Who is tuning it?

Rexxar 18-10-2010 01:43 PM

Welcome mate...
Get a tune instead of aftermarket intercooler.
Stock STI TMIC will be more than sufficient.
Suggest Verso Tune at ASG $990 Drive in/Drive out or Ecuteck at MMS

RUSSGT 18-10-2010 01:44 PM

$1190 for VERSO now.

Jordiee 18-10-2010 01:53 PM

are you sure Russ? my mate called them two days ago and they quoted 990

RUSSGT 18-10-2010 02:03 PM

Hmm. Not sure then.

RedMY01Owen 18-10-2010 02:05 PM

Maybe yours was +fuel pump Russ.

Damo69 18-10-2010 02:15 PM

sorry gents,

obviously (or apparently not) it will be getting a tune

be done by Hanson @ Xspeed.

Kato 18-10-2010 02:52 PM

Be interesting to see the results.

When you say the XR8 was 'quicker' from 80-160 was that a stock to stock comparison or modded V8 to stock wrx?

Tune and an exhaust really opens these up.

Damo69 18-10-2010 04:45 PM

This was modded XR8 to stock STI,

The STI in stock trim still wins in initial acceleration. The joy of AWD

Rexxar 18-10-2010 05:18 PM

What ECU does X-speed uses for Subies, ECUteck I assume?

or Autronics/Motec/power fc

mARC 18-10-2010 05:47 PM

No replacement for displacement in a straight line mate, gets a little hairy on corners though ;)

Also welcome and nice choice of upgrade :D

Mike 18-10-2010 06:16 PM
$1190 for VERSO now.
I paid $990 about 2 months ago. Sean said only the MY08+ were $1190.

monkeee 18-10-2010 06:25 PM

Welcome, congrats on the new car

Happy modding
What ECU does X-speed uses for Subies, ECUteck I assume?

Here at XSpeed, we are able to tune the following ECUs:

# HKS FCON V Pro Version 3.1, Version 3.24, Version 3.3
# HKS FCON iS
# HKS FCON SZ
# APEXi Power FC - Laptop Software Tuning, NOT Handset Tuning with FC Datalogit and Power Excel Software

# SCT Flash tuner for late model Fords

I'd also say they do open source tuning too.

Gents,
bit of an update on the ride at the moment,

wheels ended up with some CE28's instead of the Enkei units.

Decided against using X-Speed and going with ASG - just having difficulties catching up with them due to my current work schedule. (they dont do saturdays)

had my suspension done by wilkinsons they sorted me out with springs, struts, sway bars and anti lift kit - transformed the handling of the car considerable - i am now enjoying my early morning drives to the south west again :D

Stereo has been done. props to Robin C (WRX FIEND) for the neat install, while i was off in bali

Good move on the CE28's!
What size and colour you end up going for?

Suspension mods are the best investment for any Subaru!

Bgwrx 22-01-2011 05:04 PM

The only bad thing with all this is the lack of pics.

RUSSGT 24-01-2011 03:41 PM

How much you paying for a defi boost gauge?

Damo69 15-02-2011 02:07 PM

the gauge was $279, $150 for CF pod, $169 for the control unit. but that was a apart of a bigger order of stuff from the same supplier.

exhaust temp, oil temp, oil pressure, boost and carbon fibre pods for the win - PS not my kitchen bench, or stack of dishes, or naked reflection ;)

Is it just me, or does that look exactly like my car. But with very sexy rims..

Damo69 16-02-2011 08:13 AM

I also have a CF lip sitting in the shed, but I am having my bumper and bonnet replaced as I had a slight bingle not to long ago so I haven’t fitted it up yet.

Twin scrolls on its way, but been delayed this month by my other project the E30 – need to keep procuring parts to keep the momentum going so it doesn’t grind to a halt, and the excess on my bingle above 3.5K f@#k!!!!!!!!!!!

RUSSGT 16-02-2011 09:05 AM

Excess abouve 3.5k? Crazy!

ITGRIPS 16-02-2011 09:12 AM

i reckon you should put up some details of the car hiding in the corner of the garage in the first and second pics!! :) if you want to that is!!

the STI looks neat by the way

cheers
chris

cheers! nice! don't see many EB/EL GT's around at all, must be all hiding away. also, not many TE/TS50's either, although i saw a blue TE the other day down Williams st in Cannington! G/f's step dad is a big Ford nut and always goes on about the TE/TS50's and how he'd love to have one, especially a 5.6L!

cheers
