My WRX tale

Hey there everyone,

I don't currently own a rex, though as soon as I can get back to work and save up some dosh I intend to get one again.

My favourite WRX is the MY00 (1999) model. None of the subsequent models have ever done it for me the way those ones do.

My story is an odd one to be sure. It is set against the backdrop of a very low point in my life when, due to a bit of stupidity, lack of knowledge about WRX's, bad financial planning and a need to cheer myself up after some tough events I went out and bought a WRX on finance.

This was in august 2003......

It was a dark green 99 model wrx, fairly tidy all round with an APS package on board.
It also had lowered sports suspension, tinted windows, 3" exhaust and compared to what I was used to, a decent stereo system.
I bought it and to be completely honest fell in love with it.

I'd had it for about two months and keeping up with the car and all the other bills was already quite tight when the child support agency caught up with me. Turns out I owed them a lot. I'd recently finished Uni and started working and completely forgot that I would have to send a chunk of my earnings off to my ex to help with the kiddlywinks.

So I basically had to sell the car. But not before it decided to sh*t itself entirely necessitating an 8 grand engine re-build.

See I didn't know that having a much larger than normal turbo on the car meant I needed to get an aftermarket engine management system on it pronto, lest it melt the engine, which it did. Thanks dealers for not telling me that when you sold it to me.

This meant borrowing more money, then selling the car, getting a far crappier car and slowly paying the money off. Joy.

Ok, skip forward a few years to about two months back, I swear I'm trying to keep this brief, but I was in Fremantle and I saw my old WRX go past.
It was like seeing an old girlfriend again. Two lucky young fellas were driving it and it looked a little faded but there it was.

I would say what the rego is, but I'm not sure if that's the done thing in here or not so I won't for now.

But anyway, I will hopefully own one again one day and actually enjoy driving again, for real.

Hello Pablo668
That is quite a story, there is a learning experience there.
I wonder if you would have had a valid claim on the dealer?
I agree with you about the classic, especially the my99 and my00.
Anyway, welcome and better luck next time.

Pablo668 11-12-2010 11:51 PM

Thanks oh oh,

Yeah now I think about it, there was a limited warranty and the dealer paid out about 2grand of the 8 required.
We'd later found out that the car had also been in an accident in it's prior owners hands but they didn't tell us that either....and why would they I suppose.

Yeah there's lot's of lessons to be learned from that experience.

Yeah I do love that model wrx.

Dr_Rock 02-01-2011 10:30 AM

Hmmm. My first WRX was a dark green 1999 MY2000. I loved that car.
My first time at 200km/h (on private land, BTW).

Mine had an APS package fitted to it. It was the top package they had at the time from memory.
Just a shame it didn't have the ecu unit still fitted, might have saved the engine.
It was also lowered, sports suspension with a strut across the front suspension towers, had a 3" exhaust and front mounted intercooler.

If anyone on here ever sees a dark green GC8 wrx rego 1BJZ 070 cruising around, that was mine.

Keep the dream alive Pablo, you only live once, a second time is not proven yet!!
I always wanted one and finally got one in 2007.
Good luck in the hunt for a new second chance.

all the best

Pablo668 02-01-2011 11:11 AM

Thanks man.

Yeah I'll get another one....in the month or two hopefully.

GTB Liberty 02-01-2011 11:26 AM

Ah . . . BRG coloured Subaru - the best colour.

My first GX Lib was BRG - loved the colour.

Pablo668 02-01-2011 11:51 AM

Yeah, they wear the colour well.

Dr_Rock 02-01-2011 04:08 PM

I sold mine (stock) to Action Motors in Cannington.
I saw it once after that down in Freo, the second owner had done nothing at that stage, except remove the dash mat. I wish I could remember the rego now.
I cannot believe I sold it.
I should have started modding it.

Hey there,

So I am finally wrx-ed again.

This lovely WRX is sitting in my drive.

http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/showthread.php?t=40419

I'm a very happy man right now, my 15 year old son is rapt too.
It's funny, my plan was to get a GC8 towards the end of the year, I was totally convinced on getting another GC8.

Then this 06 came along. Only a couple mods and very well kept. The timing of the sale was well forward of where I wanted to be but......
Anyway, wonderful to be driving a WRX again. :)
