New to Perth from the US of A

Hey, just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I moved here from Flordia three months ago and purchased my first WRX two months ago. I have a brand new MY11 in Obsidian Black. Love the black but its a pain in the A$$ to keep clean. I haven't done anything to it except put in Hella Horns as the stock horn sounds like it belongs on a scooter. Any who, my point of posting is two fold:

1. Any one with my model WRX have any good shops or vendors to work with and ideas for first, reasonably priced mods.

2. I went to the WRX owners club meeting last night and to be honest was a little disappointed. This is not a knock against the club but more a call for something different. Previously I owned a 350Z and was part of the Z club of Florida. We met monthly but every week or two we had dinner outings, informal car meets, tech days (where we helped each other install parts), etc. From the looks of it, I haven't found anything like that in Perth yet. Does anyone know if that exists? Also, does Perth-WRX do anything to that level?

Thanks, and I am glad to be a part of the forum.

Top three are based in Australia, next two the US and the last two in Japan.

Owning a MY11 myself, the handling component of the car is where I would start.
Front & rear sway bars, end links, stiffer springs or coilovers or custom suspension packages (e.g. GTWorx/RCE), wider/lighter wheels or better rubber for the stock rims.
Oh, track time is a fairly cheap mod that can be done time and time again :D

There is a group that meets for coffee most if not all Saturdays and as Dave has mentioned there is the usual Thursday/Friday lunches for a number of people as well.

There are several official and unofficial cruises throughout the year as well as a number of skid pan/track days.

Welcome tthomas417. The aussie car scene is very different to the american one. We love cars...americans breathe them! I have a yank tank so I know a lot of guys from the states and they all say the same thing about the australian scene.

Welcome to Perth-WRX.

There are several specialist subaru workshops in Perth you can talk to about mods.
A lot of us use and highly recommend STechnic in Maddington.
What the boys there dont know about Subarus, isn't worth knowing.

Other options are Maximum Motorsport and All Star Garage in Malaga.

Next major event coming up is the annual Colin McRae Memorial Cruise on Sunday 23/09/12.

Welcome to Perth and Perth-WRX.

Plenty of outings and get togethers here. The Canning Vale section of our forum tends to get together often, or there is coffee on saturday mornings, dinners, lunches, etc etc.

Good luck
