I need help!!! (and a loom/ecu)

Hi there folks,
I've been slowly putting a wrx together out of a 1997 wrx (written off) and a 1996 rx impreza (also written off) I'm so close to the finish line but the wrx was auto and the rx is manual and i wanted to end up with a manual wrx. Its gone together nicely but i now need the appropriate loom/ ecu to make it go. I've tried modding the looms i had over many painstaking and head ache filled hours and have really only made a mess rather than a working loom. any help or suggestions about where i can get such a loom/ ecu i need, or if anyone has the know how to make the stuff I've got work would be so greatly appreciated. I just want my wrx back, I'm currently driving a 1988 ford telstar so I'm sure you can feel my pain please help.

Use the WRX auto loom and ECU. Anyone in the know can modify the gearbox harness to plug a manual transmission into the auto loom plug. Plenty of WRX's have been sucessfully converted from Auto to manual. (manual to auto is much bigger problem)

Your non turbo manual trans and clutch is going to be prone to early failure as well.

That sounds great.
I've already beefed up the clutch and figure ill just use the gearbox til it goes.
How do i find someone in the know? I'm on a pretty tight budget so any directions to the right people would be great.
thanks again.

Would you get fault codes from not having the AT control module plugged in to the ECM?

I have a 99WRX ECU if it helps you get around any issues with it not seeing an Auto Trans.

Not compatible with his 97 motor and loom.

Sorry to hi-jack your thread. But with all the talk of chopping an auto loom... :-( I am in search of a auto loom if there is still one with its ECU and the whole kabudal...

Un hi-jack... :-)

Surprisingly no. It appears the ECU doesn't give a shit. There's a pin on the ECU to determine AT or MT, but only so it knows whether to cut injector pulse on overrun in gear (MT only) It's no problem without it, just cackles a bit more when coasting.

Gotta love the cackle
