Hi from Wellington

Hey Guys, been sifting around here for a little while, thought I'd introduce myself.

I've got a JDM V5 Type R that I ran a bearing on and have been slowly rebuilding over the last 3 years.

Currently 242kw atw and 416nm@4300 rpm

The car has now become my daily driver so Im trying to get a bit more response out of it.

anyway heres a pic

A little update, after driving my new setup for a while I wasn't happy with the response down low, so after a little research on factory cam timing I ended up setting my timing back to the factory settings hoping I would move my torque curve to the left. As soon as it was up on the dyno (dynapak hub) my tuner had to pull heaps of fuel out of the top end and I lost 10% of my overall power. ended up on 220kw atw (probably around 190-200kw on aussie dynos), so I decided at that power I may as well run a factory turbo and be on boost nice and early.
So pulled the pin on the retune and right place right contacts, I picked up a 40,000km VF36 off a freshly imported engine, I'll end up running twin scroll when I can find a factory set of headers but in the mean time ill just bolt my ported P20 on it and retune.

This will at least rule out anything else causing my setup to spool late. I have a feeling my ported factory exhaust manifold is choking things up high in the rev range and not making full advantage of my ported heads and you really need to get a back cut turbine spinning hard to make it work well.
Once ive got the twinscroll manifold I'll try my modified turbo as a VF36 18G with the P25 housing.

heres a pick of my front lip I intstalled yesterday

Much want here ...

I've now put the unmodified vf36 core onto my P20 housing, so basically running a vf34p20, as expected I've got heaps more response down low compared to my modified back cut turbo.
I did some logging to check my AFR's, it ws running pretty rich at WOT, down into the low 10:1's, so I did some amateur DIY tuning to pull i bit of fuel out.

So it comes on nice and strong but as expected drops off at higher RPM's, where as my modified one pulls hard till redline.
So the plan is to go twin scroll on my modified turbo totry to pick up some response down low. (hopefully 500rpm earlier spool and i'll be happy)

I picked up some factory twin scroll headers for $200 and just rounding up a downpipe and bracket.

Anyway here's what my turbo looks like thats going back on. Its a VF36 with a back cut turbine and 18G compressor wheel, it also has a bronze bearing cage ported compressor cover. So its pretty much a PE1825 clone

Hi from Jetts malaga.

Nice gc8.

Stoffa 31-01-2013 07:32 AM

after driving around on my vf36p20 I decided I love it, so got it retuned and now sitting at 220kw atw on 1.5bar (is that on par with aussie readings for a vf34p20?) 400nm

The green and redlines on the plot are my new turbo setup, about 3-400 rpm better spool. Ive now got 1 bar at 3300rpm and 1.5 bar just shy of 4000rpm. and the link G4 boost control holds solid 1.5 bar till redline

Im now happy with my setup and got my first track day on my new engine in march.
