Unhappy New to scoobs by wifes project

Hi forum.

Well. I always wanted a scoob.
Now the wife has decided that she wanted a black Silver Edition GC8. Only with one HUGE problem. She does not want to get her manual licence so am stuck with an auto WRX. But, that is not even the beginning of turmoil.

I have rebuild and refurbished a few cars and she has always been keen on helping out. So she found this car and wanted it to be a project for her and I.
Awesome... I thought I had struck the lotto there... With Minister of Home Affairs that is, until we went to fetch the car.

Worse for wear is not the words. It was on wheels (different sizes) and had a motor and auto box in. As for the rest... Well... That is why I have to start educating myself in the world of GC8's.
Took it to a bunch of fundies and a scooby workshop. Guys knew their stuff there. Unfortunately but not unexpected, I left my hopes binned. Everything they chatted about seemed like a project that would be financial unfeasible and cost more that to have bought a running rex with a definite potential of not even getting it going as an auto.

At the moment we have a HUGE paper weight. But I am still in hope that we can get it running and moving as that is the most NB part.

So, let me get started. :-)
So I have joined the best place to find info/help/parts/what-have-you.

I know... but it is a rex for her. And I don't want to kill that flame...
Obvious reasons are that if she love it. I can get one too. Gotta give to get.
Did not see that in the marriage contract but it seems to work... Sometimes. And
if this works it will end being a good time. LOL

He brought it in to me Dave. The main problem arises from what appears to be a botched attempt to remove the multiple immobilizers or a theft. The wiring loom has been raped in such a manner that it's going to be very difficult to rectify. Wires cut off inside the backs of plugs, bare wires, crossed wires, jumper wires, broken ciruit boards out of their cases etc. My advice would normally be to start with a fresh loom that's not been mutilated. However, being auto and the owner's request to stay with the auto makes sourcing a compatible loom somewhat difficult. Add to this the massive amount of work required to change the loom makes it unfeasable unless it's a DIY situation. (or done on the cheap by a friend etc)
The car also needed bodywork, licensing and the running gear condition is also unknown.
Could be a good project for someone, could also be a worst nightmare.

Hiya RJD,

I was in the (mostly) white 2012 WRX today at STechnic.

That car of yours is a MASSIVE project and I wish you a ton of luck if you decide to follow it through - I reckon you'll need every bit of it.

If you do go ahead, be sure to chronicle the journey with plenty of pics etc on here and I hope your wife is patient enough to wait for her project car to be finished!!

I think he means a silver edition which is black in colour?

Silver anniversary edition WRX - released early in 1998 by Subaru Australia to celebrate 25 years of Subaru in Australia. The car featured a black paint scheme, full leather interior and gold wheels.
