What's MY02 WRX Worth?

Hi to all

So this post is not an attempt to sell the car, what I am looking for is some impartial opinions on what it might be worth.

Finally the time has come to get rid of my MY02 WRX which has had a 2.5L conversion completed from Maximum motorsport. Its also had a respray needs some small body attention like a cut and polish and touch ups here and there. The car has 18" rim and tyres and has about 110K klms on the odometer. Its silver and other than the engine conversion its stock. The interior could do with some small touch ups. Over all the car has been used but still is in good condition. It also has a JVC dvd mp3 player with pioneer splits in the front and 4" kenwood or Alpines in the rear doors with a amp and 10" kicker in the boot, works well good sound.

The motor fitted by maximum was one of those supposed crash test motors of a forester 2004. So the 2002 heads had to stay as there is wiring difference which some of you might already know about. The motor only has about 50K klm's on it. Right now it's licenced and looks like the I might have blown the heads. I am yet to get a proper diagnosis on this issue. I'm not losing any power so unsure. Im not a mechanic so that will have to investigated properly.

The last service was done with Maximum's and they told me that the heater core needs replacing as i have condensation coming out of the vents and a running water sound under the dash. The rocket cover gaskets on the turbo side have melted over time. These are both apparently common problems.

So at this stage I am unsure what the car might be worth in the condition it is in.
I have some small offers around the $5000 mark, although this seems way low since to repair the possible problem is approx $2.5K to $3K worst case scenario, the same car redbook is between $9k to $15k. Carsales is telling me that similar cars with same klm's but not the 2.5L are going for around $13k to $17k.

So as mentioned at the beginning this post is not an attempt to sell the car, what I am looking for are some impartial opinions. Please understand that I am not desperate to sell it and I want to get a more accurate valuation for the car so your IMPARTIAL opinion is what I want

cheers
john

With a busted motor 5k.

That 2k to fix it probably ends up being 4.

Sounds like it hasnt got a brilliant body or interior either.

And no one gives a fuck about bugeyes.

$5k seems about right. Seen a few average condition bugeyes around the $9k mark. Add the cost of engine repairs. Add to that cost of replacing heater core (New core from subaru is around $600 alone). Dash out to replace heater core as well.
Sounds like it is best suited to a diy type person as cost of labour to get it in shape would kill it.

Insurance fraud probability......high!

Is the car engineered for the 2.5L conversion?

If not, $5k is generous.

If you are not desperate to sell, why would you sell it broken? Spend the "$3k worst case scenario", put up working car on Carsales for $15k. #winning (just for you Russ :D)

Personally I think the repairs will be a lot more than $3k, which is why you are getting realistic offers of $5k.
