Default New to Perth-WRX

Hi All,
New member to this Forum, just bought a new Subaru WRX MY12 model Blue Mica. The car is awesome, the driver is bad at driving a performance car. Already scratched all my alloy wheels only done around 3000 kms. Though I drove my old car for 2 years without a scratch. Just a couple of lines for guys to have a laugh about. Just need some advice for modifying the car with after market ECU and give it a extra 30 hp. What do you guys think wait for atleast a year to modify it. Please leave comments positive and negative.

Sorry forgot this one it's a Sedan

Ash

Good morning Ash and welcome to Perth-WRX.

There are loads of 2012 WRX's here, did you get the hatch or the sedan??

Use the Search function in the menu and you'll pretty much find a discussion about everything you need to know on here... In terms of an aftermarket ECU most people just get a re-tune EcuTek or Verso however you'll be saying goodbye to your warranty.

If I was you (and just reading your comments about not being able to drive) I would look out for the next RAC performance driving course and get to know your car properly before increasing the horsepower. I personally have owned my car just on a year now and I've done multiple events before doing anything to the engine in terms of hp... May I suggest your first mods be suspension and/or breaks/tyres.

Anyway... that's my 2 cents.. Enjoy the forums.

Hi Ash welcome to the club mate.

Keep it stock for a while...come to a few events and meet some of the other MY11/ MY12 owners and see what they've done...might give you some ideas!

Welcome.

You don't want an aftermarket ECU. You want to reflash your stock ecu. Search Verso or ECUTek on here.

Why do you want 30hp? (I get amused when people want a specific figure) Basically you will do the stock standard, panel filter, 3" exhaust, ecu retune. This will net a good 30+hp. Pro's: more power than stock. Con's: Loss of new car warranty on affected parts.

Personally, I would enjoy the car as it is and get some seat time at RAC learning what the car can do. Suspension items such as lowering springs, coilovers, sway bars etc would be the first stop to making the car more fun (it already has good power). Then you can start upping the power when you need to. You've also had time to find out if there are any warranty issues that need to be sorted out prior to going gangbusters with the boost.

Welcome to the club mate.
Nice choice of car there, I might be biased though

Plenty of MY11+ owners modifying their cars in different ways, so there should be enough information to get yourself started on what you can do.

Personally I would recommend some track time (skid pan days happen quite often through this club) and then look at working on the handling side of things.

Some examples of what you could do...
  • sway bars
  • better tyres
  • coilovers
  • lowering springs
  • aftermarket struts and springs

Welcome to the forum..

As others have said above
Get to know the cars performance,
Get used to the handling,

Before wanting to do heap's of Mods research the things you want to do, ask question's about what others have done, and read other member's driveway thread's, there's a lot answer's in the search feature both here and the amazeing world of knowing
And two thing's 1 STAY OFF THE CURBS
2 BUY A FLAME SUIT
