Well Considering I'm off to uni next year and probably won't wanna be forking out for maintenance costs, would it be worth selling my current car and buying more modern? It'd be an 04-05 as they're a bit easier on the eye haha

Depends what you buy mate. If you choose to buy one, then try and buy something that has been well looked after. At the end of the day an 04 car is still 9 years old and could have been neglected... look at the service history. Try and buy it off someone who has owned it for a while and you can gauge their character and read through the log books, look at receipts etc.
I know people that have purchased an 04/05/06/07/08 etc. and had way more issues than me, maybe I am just lucky. Worst thing thats gone wrong with my car mechanically is a split CV joint and a few oil leaks. Every car will be different whether you pick a 97, 00, 05 whatever. You might have problems, especially being a turbocharged performance car, or you might not...

If it were me I would probably keep the 2011 you have for now. And keep saving for something much newer for when you are out of Uni in the meantime

The increased cost in insurance would also be a factor to consider. It would more than likely double I would think (correct me people if I am wrong) Plus your fuel costs would also increase.

Ah the old choice.
Cheap, fast, reliable. Choose 2 of the above. Cheap + reliable = my11 impreza Fast + reliable = an STi with 6spd, 207 Fast + cheap = GC I've owned my GC for 5 odd years now. Have spent plenty of money on it. But I wouldn't say its unreliable. |

Reliability will also depend on how you treat it when you get it.
If you are on a budget i'd be keeping the performance cars for after graduation. Sounds like your current car is ideal.

Buy a Gen 4 Liberty Sti ... Put in Scary's type motor, open sunroof and wave out it as you pass GC with stereo on and air cond running.
*wakes up*

I went from a gc8 to a bugeye. I had that for 2 months then sold it and went back to a gc8. I have had my sti for about 6 years now and still love it to death. I have driven most sti's up to a 2012 sti sedan and even though it was nice, it was no where near as fun to drive as my gc8,
So I'd say to buy a gc8, which will cost you less to buy anyway. Maintain it as required and enjoy!
