My first scooby

About me:
I'm Allan. I live NOR near Joondalup and I recently picked up a MY00 WRX. Its currently got a front mount, turbo back exhaust, bodykit etc. Ive only owned it about 2 weeks but so far have put in a new boost gauge, turned boost down a bit, did a good ol' aussie swap of 2x 4 packs of JB for a sub and 2 amps. Thats going in tomorrow. I also have a remote start/alarm/turbo timer combo system on the way, hopefully before Xmas so I can hook that up. In the coming months I plan on upgrading fuel pump ( I hear Walbro 255l is the way to go), tracking down a ECU and getting a tune. Trying to only do upgrades that wont incur the wrath of the misses at this point. Ive attempted to upload a pic of my car. Thanks for reading :o Look forward to attending some cruises, work permitting of course. |

Just realised I have very few photos of her so I went and took a couple of quick shots.
Also forgot to mention she already has a monster tacho installed, BOV, boost tap installed etc. |
Welcome mate. Nice looking Rex. Walpro 255 is the one to get. Powerfc is a good ecu to get...
|
Top mount intercooler is a good intercooler to get
Remote start is a thing not to get Turbo timer is a thing not to get Welcome. |
Welcome to the loose cannon that is Pwrx
as above loose the remote and timer to much habibi spec ... :P |
Lol fair enough.
Advice noted and taken under consideration. Really interesting threads on here. Was up late reading, great source of information. |
Welcome!
How much boost is it / was it running? |

Which shop?
Assuming you still have the factory TD04 turbo, FMIC is a waste and just makes you slower. Also 10psi is nearly down to actuator pressure. Run it at factory boost imo. |
All star garage. Had a big chat with them discussing my options and the prices of different things.
I'll turn it up a bit then. Thanks for letting me know. |
fmic > tmic dont let anyone tell you otherwise

I did a search for TMIC VS FMIC and it generated heaps of debates on the subject. I couldnt find any threads with a clear "winner" for lack of a better word. Please correct me if this is wrong but it seems the general consensus is TMIC if running the standard turbo, FMIC if planning on upgrading? |

Otherwise you are just generating extra lag in the system that a smaller turbo is not offsetting with the power it makes. |

Okay that makes alot of sense. Jeez you guys are full of wonderful information. Hopefully I'll catch up with you all soon at a cruise so I can buy you gentlemen a drink and pick your brain. |
V-mount or GTFO
Note: Missus may not approve of the cost
Wow 4k for a v mount process west, only 1.5k for a front mount and 1k for a top... |
You don't really need a FMIC until ~350-400hp area. A FMIC will also lose a lot of throttle response.
Since you already have a FMIC, leave it on and spend $1k on a bigger and better turbo rather than trying to go back to a factory set up. Ideally you would want a twin scroll turbo and a tmic. This is a great combo and whilst you make less power, it has been proven to be faster around the track. |
Squeeze throttle earlier, fill piping with air
fuck having a heatsink that is susposed to cool your air directly above your turbo and engine, its retarded and simply a tight ass move by Subi to save money which carried on. Evo and GTR and fundamentally 99% of other turbo cars seems to do ok with a fmic! |
I disagree that it is a cost saving thing.
For a normal street driven ~300hp Subaru a GD or GR STi TMIC is more than enough. Standard WRX and GC8 TMIC are poo. |

Yes, however, the turbos/mapping are chosen with the little bit of extra lag due to longer intercooler pipes already designed in. With a Subaru if you change top mount to a front mount you go "oh wow, lag ahoy" because that's what you've got to compare it too. |
