Late Night Newb

Evening Ladies and Gents

My names Aaron, however my friends call me Howie. Feel free to use either!

I've just purchased my first Subaru :D

2002 Impreza S WRX Club Spec
88000km

Below, a list of car specifics which may or may not be legit as no paperwork has ever been provided to the last 2 owners of its history.

Engine Rebuilt with forged internals & Bored to 2.2litre
Rebuilt Gear Box
Heavy Duty Clutch & Flywheel
STI Turbo (currently running 16psi)
Front Mount Intercooler
Greddy Eboost 2 Controller
K&N Air Filter
Stainless Turbo Back Exhaust
After-market Performance Fuel Pump
750cc Injectors
Stock ECU
19" Konig Afterburners

So.....

This evening being Friday I had Simon from Predator Performance in Singleton check over my car and do some remapping.

I don't claim to be 100% on the process because I'm new to all this so please be patient and I'll get all the details up ASAP.

Simon has explained that the car was running rich and ignition timings were all over the shop.

Now running 23psi and have diverted back to using the ECU to control boost and the Greddy is now an expensive & ugly boost gauge.

Car will be picked up tomorrow as I'm currently on night shift in the city.

Very EXCITED:icon_chee to see how his tune went.

I've heard nothing but good things about this bloke and his knowledge.

True test will be tomorrow when I pick her up.

Thoughts, comments and general chit chat welcomed and encouraged.

Thanks

Welcome
Very tidy looking car for (BUGeye hahahaha)
There's something I really like about that colour on wrx's.... Well done on the purchase, as u'll find there is massive amounts of info on this forum

Please ask Predator performance which software he is using to remap your stock ECU.

OK WOW
This thing rocks :icon_supe
Why I never bought a Subaru to start with is beyond me!

Pulls very hard in comparison to anything I've ever owned (6ltr VE SS & Mazda RX8)

There is no comparison and I now see why so many people are passionate about these cars!

so here's how it all went down today.

Simon ended up leaving the Greddy to control the boost which allows me to run a high or low boost setting.

Now Running
Low - 10psi
High - 22psi

Full remapping using ECU EDIT.

He did tell me a lot about the process however for someone that is new to the scene it was a lot to take in.

The next step
- Upgrade ECU to an Alcatek
- 4 bar sensor
- Antilaser

Thoughts and comments on current setup and future upgrades would be appreciated.

Cheers guys!

welcome mate!! sick rig, and another converted! just keep an eye on your oil level, let it warm up properly and youll get many good times out of it. :) anyone have any sucess/waste of time stories with the blinders??

s20525xxx 03-08-2014 08:49 AM

A friend is using it, the new one can jam lidar camera (tripod) and lasar gun (hand held). But doesnt work on fixed ones. U have to get the proper (expensive) ones.

drewgong 03-08-2014 09:38 AM

well whats the expensive one that works? i dont wanna half ass it! ;) v1 is the same.. it works 100% on copcars.. 100% on the cameras mounted in the van ( well our local 1) but gives little to no warning against tripod, especillay rear facing.. front facing gives short warning.

Nice purchase.

I run Laser Interceptor (volatile audio can supply/ install). They seem to work fine although it's pretty easy to remember the 5 fixed speed camera locations (vitronic boxes).

You won't jam the fixed yellow ones at intersections, they run off pressure pads. You shouldn't be smashing it through intersections anyway, but there are ~30 locations to remember if you do let your foot slip.

Edit:
I also run V1 high mount horizontal at the same time. V1 doesn't always pick them up if they aren't placed correctly, whereas LI will.

s20525xxx 03-08-2014 11:14 AM

With v1 or any other radar detector, u should mount them high, ie near rear view mirror. Mine gives plenty warning for any foward facing camera, and tells me the rear facing one. Just drive 10 km above limit if ur in a hurry u will be fine, rear ones has bigger tolerance than front facing.

Laser jammers should have high power rating and effective coverage to jam tripod, and cover ur headlight and number plate. And they r illegal, so u want one with a kill switch to prevent u jam a laser gun for too long.

They are induction loops, not pressure pads.

So Evo R stocks it then ?

astralex 03-08-2014 09:21 PM

According to one online retailer £825 ($1490). Would it not be better to buy locally an ECU that a greater number of tuners are familiar with at a very similar price?

However, congratulations on the purchase and welcome.

s20525xxx 03-08-2014 09:35 PM

Why no one use piggy back system here, they r cheaper and safer if ecu compensation max out. Greddy e-manage and hks fcon r grear, they have seperated computer and inputs can adjust injection and timing independly from ecu. Evolution R can supply and tune them.

Cheers guys,

I'm looking at the ALPriority3 - 3 Sensor Kit 2xFront 1xRear heard good things about them but hoping to find someone in the forum currently using one.

OK OK OK lots of weird looks when I said alcatek. someone did mention them being predominately European which is highly likely as Simon from predator is from England so this would make sense.

all getting done Tuesday

He thinks ill get another 50bhp out of her which is awesome news.

I would like to put her on the dyno if anyone can recommend a place that can do it this week ill bring her in and post up the stats.

Thanks again for all the info guys and hopefully get to catch up with a few other drivers soon!

Peace

Howie
