2008 sti hatch, where do i start?

Hi all, my names Izzy.

I own a 08 impreza sti hatchback, which is fully stock.
Would like to know if anyone is available to help me out with mods, improvements and other general advice. What, when, where to start and/or how to go about making the most of what I have.
Daily driver, not for the track but still looking for strength/power, reliability and style.
Willing to travel anywhere close to the Lynwood area.
Thinking it's better to get help here before making bad money decisions at the shops.
Even if you think you can teach me how to drive it properly, All help and advice appreciated.

Thankyou

Do some research on here. Read build threads. Plenty of information on here to get you started before you even think of going to any workshop.

What do you want from the car?
What size the budget?
What do you like about other cars you've seen?
Do you want to do it all yourself?

Answer those questions and do some reading. There is a sizeable knowledge base here.

Adding to what Dave has posted above...

If I were going down this path, I would choose a tuner first and then discuss with them what I want to achieve and how they can help to get me there.
If you don't like what you hear from that particular tuner, you are more than welcome to consult another.

There is a list of tuners in Perth in the Perth Workshop Thread.

Oh and welcome to Perth WRX!
:D

Hi nick where are you located? Short back and sides cost? Thread killer.....

seagull 18-02-2015 01:31 PM

Or you can do it all yourself ? I think what he is saying

There are three cars close to you. All are different set ups

Gorden first replied to you & he has an 08.

Can meet up for a coffee in Vic park one evening for a chat, I can get the guys together. I am sure I can get Gorden out for a tea. It would give you a wider view of three cars the same model as yours as they differ so greatly.

Sounds great Neil Im eager to listen and learn. Anytime.

mitchwnz 18-02-2015 01:42 PM

Fuck doing it yourself. Pay some other cnut and then sell it for a huge loss.

1) Butler exhaust/tune
2) Decent Coilovers - I had KW V3's in mine
3) HT Auto's kit is good, and pretty cheap
4) Tail Light overlays (although they are a bitch to install).
5) Some nice rims/tyres.

That's what I did to mine anyway.. looked/went ok.

Il keep it for the kids thanks Mitch

Snapz 18-02-2015 02:06 PM

Snapz 18-02-2015 02:09 PM

Ok found it thanks btw

nick73 18-02-2015 02:15 PM

Get some bucket seats and sell me your sti seats ;)

seagull 18-02-2015 05:51 PM

There is better exhausts out there like invider q300. It sounds porn and with the titanium tips against the blue car it suits it well. Quality is now extremely good, go to the pro speed racing web site and get a price from Troy delivered to Perth. Brett has this system on his car & open source tuned. Gorden has the butler built system with Mao tuning it with I don't know what software these days.

I put my hand on my heart and say the KW V3 are very good. Brett has these and the ride is fantastic.

These days if your able to set up the car to tune it your self through Rom Raider / open source tuning. You will learn a lot more about your car

I will let Brett explain this as his car is going through some changes in the near future.

My butler down pipe's cat was blown loose, had it replaced after only 70000km. Invidia seems to be very good, so does xforce.

Maybe do a compression test before push it with a tune.

You have to pay to play.

mitchwnz 19-02-2015 09:03 PM

Tax return.

Snapz 19-02-2015 09:18 PM

Agreed

beernuts 24-02-2015 09:37 AM

Howdy. I have an 08 Hatch as well as a 10 Spec C hatch. For what you said getting a flash tune like ECUTEK and exhaust will give you the best bang for buck. Talk to Maximum Motorsport. They look after all my cars

I thought you replaced your 08 sti motor your self when it failed a ring land Chris.

beernuts 24-02-2015 01:33 PM

Yes I did Seagull. Did a short engine in October. But it still has the same tune and exhaust.

beernuts 24-02-2015 01:35 PM

I had 2 weeks off and wanted to learn more about the engine, hence why I did it at home. Birch of a job but now I can say that I've pulled an engine completely apart and rebuilt it.

Good work, let's see how long this one lasts with the stock pistons

beernuts 25-02-2015 03:48 PM

Well, Black Betty is in racing retirement. Betty White is the weapon of choice. Hence why I didn't bother forging it being a daily drive that struggles to get 4,000 km per year.

seagull 25-02-2015 05:39 PM

Yes I know

Great driving at the last Targa as well Chris.
