the beauty of touring cars was the implementation of improvements (like f1), so supporting the right car gave you the right result. if we wanted a 'drivers' sport, then tune into A1GP, otherwise i'm all for pushing the mechanical first and finding a driver who can hold it together second.
You need to go check some figures if you think motorsport doesnt make someone money Stace.

Yeah, I totally agree, great way to piss off some big tax bills, but the V8's as a series have turned a profit for the last several years.

Hell, even Williams F1, who had their worst season in 20 years last season, still have a 4.5 million dollar profit in 2010, even with less sponsors and prize money.

A1 GP died 2 years ago :P

heh, i still have an A1GP shirt, shows how much i paid attention to that series

re v8's making money- they dont show it, the quality of their car builds is low-tech and they cry foul about every track having poor facilities.

if it wasnt for the sponsor funded trips to china etc, i'm sure the series would have folded by now.

Crying poor about the facilities is just politics.

Complain, get them improved, fit more people in (especially the VIP's), sell more tickets, make more money.

You will see the sport wont put a cent towards Wanners, yet we are spending the money because we want them here.

The sport has an awesome TV deal too, 7 paid a bucketload for the rights, which they make money from by selling advertising... but the deal ensures that V8SC gets a % off every add sold.

The builds might be low tech, but a brand new car from shell to racing is still a 4-600k investment.

They get paid to race in Bahrain and Abi Dabi, doesnt cost them a cent.

The sport is in as much danger of going broke as I am of winning Mr Anorexic 2011.

If you had just spend a year looking at the books, would you pay 300 million dollars for a sport thats going broke? The fact someone wants it, and just paid very very good money for it tells you alot about how the sport is doing.

off topic but - Barbs has very poor facilities. Went to Symmons Plain in Tassie a few weeks back (hadn't been there since I was racing there in 99) and the facilities and track condition are far superior. Having said that, this is comparing two very boring tracks.

Are they still extending Barbs? It needs a few more interesting corners.....

I'd like to know how sponsorship reduces a tax bill.

Unless there is some magical law for a 300% deduction, the companies sponsoring the events are mainly doing it for the advertising. Given the $ involved, motorsport must be making money somewhere!

Work is happening now. Haven't been out in the last month or two though so not sure exactly what.

I believe the V8's pits are going where the currant medical centre is. If that is correct then it's going to be completely f&^ked as a spectator. Could see 75% of the track from above the old pits. Will be able to see stuff all when they are finished.

Tried checking it on nearmap. Map is 20th April and I can't spot anything yet.

Apparently from what I've been told they were starting as soon as the V8's left so that pics a couple of weeks to early.
