Summer Autocross Series @ Perth Motorplex

For those unfamiliar with the Summer Autocross series, in conjunction with the Perth Motorplex, we set up an Autocross track on the speedway circuit on a Wednesday night. Most nights you will have at least 4 x 3 lap runs over the circuit (or 5 if you make the final). With 3 cars on the track at once it is also great spectating while you are waiting for your next run. The Final is 5 Laps for the fastest 3 cars.

5 Round series with trophies on offer each round.

Your times appear almost immediately on a screen in the pit area so not only can you take the p out of your mate, you can also see whether that left foot braking move was actually faster or not. It is your fastest run of the evening that counts towards the Trophies and Championship Points Table.

What cars are eligible? Pretty much anything that is safe and has a seat belt and fire extinguisher.

I did this for 2 summers when it first started, it really is a good value fun event - and close to town, and after work!

I would like to know if anyone who did it last year - the concrete strip between the motorbike and sprint car track, has this been an issue (i.e. a big bump) after the circuit gets cut up? It used to be a bit of a jolt towards the end of the night, but perhaps the new circuit layout helps to prevent this evolving?

Seems Dave Smith from STechnic is the 'guy behind the email address'. That's a worry :)

Got a reply to some questions:

"Gravel tyres would be helpful certainly, but are not mandatory. The track gets quite dry and grippy by the end of the night and gravel tyres have less of an advantage then.
No a cage is not required, in fact if they let an MX5 compete a WRX will pass no probs.
At this stage entry is expected to be $90 (although it may need to rise slightly if we have very low numbers but I wouldn't expect it to be anymore than $100)

Supp Regs are at CAMS for approval, but pencil in Wednesday, 2nd November for Round 1."

adrian, the concrete bump doesnt worry anyone too much, just makes for more fun when the surface change kicks you the other way when you throw it sideways over it..

if you're worried, just crab over it...
Its pretty easy to be fast, I won a 2wd round last year in a fwd impreza... Just be commited!
