This video has been cut using Adobe Premiere but there have been no adjustments to the video itself. Lighting from the car is provided by the standard factory fitted high beams.

Just to clarify so that false facts don't unintentionally start going around: unfortunately the crash occurred due to driver error, not mechanical error. Plain and simple.

As for the concrete vs plastic debate: yeah as Blues has said it's been covered before.
The barriers are only used at a couple of locations, and the reason they are in place there is to stop two cars from possibly crashing into each other of one person gets it wrong (oh and to protect the precious grass).
Better one accident than two. Drive to the conditions and your ability and you should be right; get it wrong and the concrete is there to protect someone else from your mistake.
Jeckle likes this.

I was around, but a debate usually entails 2 sides unlike your account above..
And I think some of your loser / sucked in comments are probably unnecessary and not really constructive to your original point..

Hey, I agree, we gravel rallied for many years and it only takes the smallest error to end in tears (been there, but I still maintain average notes.....). I'm the first believer in driving on your limits & only pushing if you can afford to bin your car...personally I make more mistakes trying to drive at 7/10th's than I do driving at 11/10th's, but that's me...

I'm a big advocate for safe Motorsport & a big fan of getting new people into the sport I love and am passionate about. I helped run a youth rally team after being a participant many years ago.. Rallysprints & tuning session like RAC are perfect for Daily's to get out there and have a go.. More the better I think...

My point is, last time I went along (the night Tarmac lost his car due to a barrier on exit to a corner, protecting the grass) they had too many barriers that could have easily have been replaced with plastic barriers..

All my opinion... Happy for anyone to disagree, I'll still sleep tonight...

The night was over early for me too. First run, halfway through at the first chicane I suspect I slotted 1st gear instead of 3rd and instantly tore the centre out of the clutch. While the box is out I'm going to try to do something to stop it happening so easily. It's happened plenty of times before, depends on how many revs it's doing when it goes in, sometimes it's an epic over-rev, sometimes the clutch goes.

They can do, but I tend to brake much earlier for the corners with the concrete at the end.

Thanks to those who posted vids of their runs so far. Learnt a lot for where I can go much harder, as I had already expected.

Got the full lot of runs in this time, and Sam also enjoyed herself.

Sorry for Liam, driver error or other it's never nice to hit something hard, wether its a plastic barrier, concrete, light pole, gate or a tree. The obstacle is there for us all, and there are times when your lucky and miss it when you have an off, or your not. Importantly, they were ok.

Also a timely question re air bags. Often they are recommended to be disconnected with a harnesses. Not sure why. Ok you may not reach the bag when it's deployed, but if you do, because you have less movement, you won't have travelled as far, so you would hit the bag as it starts to deflate. Or am I wrong on this.

Video of my granny run to follow in the next day or so.
